It's a shame, my Tempestus would of love to have taken some of these. Oh well, poor no relic boys.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.
I have a problem.
Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Uh, quick question considering the subject.
A Legion of the Damned Sergeant can take an Animus Malorum as part of his wargear options.
The Animus Malorum is listed as a "Relic of the Damned" in the LotD wargear section.
Does this mean a LotD Sergeant can take these relics? He doesn't specifically have access to a Relics list, he just has access to something that happens to BE a relic.
Also on the subject of Signature Systems, I read the page and it says "Relic (or equivalent)". So the argument should be shifted towards what defines as a "Relic equivalent".

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |

This came up in a different page, except with a Command Squad having access to the Standard of the Emperor Ascendant.
Basically, the argument came down to one other guy saying that it wasn't "really" a relic even though it's listed on the relic page and explicitly called a relic, and my saying that it obviously is a relic, and thus should be included.

Actually the rule is read correctly, how ever theres more to the rules than just sticking them in a chaos or xenon army. IE this excerpt here..
“It is important to note that any of these powerful characters can be included as an HQ choice in a Detachment belonging to their Faction as normal, but each of them can also be included as an HQ choice in any Combined Arms or Allied Detachment comprised of an Armies of the Imperium Faction (such as Astra Militarum or Space Marines), regardless of the individual character’s actual Faction.
”
Excerpt From: Games Workshop. “Gathering Storm: Fall of Cadia Enhanced Edition.” Games Workshop, 2017. iBooks. https://itun.es/us/COjchb.l
Thats who they can join, then the relic rule would apply. Unless i read it wrong.. (not)

Just take an allied detachment of space marines with a min scout squad or something.
It applies to their entire army, and armies include allies too.

Some relics give useful USRs that transfer to the unit. Giving those to allied-in large units like conscript blobs or (as mentioned previously) green tide can produce interesting results. You can also use it to give characters who sorely need certain things like decent weapons or an invuln save those things, though at a cost.

I just had an argument with a guy at my FLGS about it...
Apparently he said that you can't take them because in the allies of convenience section, it says something along the lines of 'can't be the target of psychic powers and abillites and so on' and so he considered the relics a 'so on'
Any merit to that argument?

ask him how picking a relic is a target

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

Well, think is just about some common sense to realice what are the relics. And we are all able to identify them in the different codex xD

I agree with Oberon. If the ability is passive and does not specifically target a unit, then it would still apply the benefit to the unit. If you purchase a piece of wargear, which otherwise has the added title of a "relic", and said wargear does not "target" the unit that has taken it, would it not be a passive ability or buff?
I like the idea of Orks looting the relics and being able to use the allies chart to buff them into next week. It might make me actually purchase the fall of Cadia book so I can give my warboss an actual invuln save that I don't need a bigmek within 6 inches for.
Dez imperium boyz have some good relicz for us to uze! I like da shiny onez that make me tuff and get stuck in wit the boyz! Hur hur hur!
