No, if anything, GW is far more busy than ever before here. Used to be only two Games Workshop stores in the D/FW metroplex back when I started, now there's another one in the north of Dallas, plus one more in Denton which is pretty close by. And that's just the GW stores, the non-GW gaming store locations have multiplied even more and most of them that I've checked on my quest to get paints stock GW stuff and have games running at least occasionally. Four stores within 30km indicates pretty heavy patronage to me.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

GW's doing really good in my area. But infinity is coming in a huge wave.
And I may eventually need to join them, but I won't give up 40k, probably not ever.

It's not dying here; every weekend the GW has people playing 40k, there are a few other game stores I don't usually go to that I hear have it going too. I'm trying to push AOS at the GW too with a smaller but growing following (not aware of any other store that has AOS or I'd push it there too). I wouldn't say it's growing exponentially though, the people who play 40k tend to be, and I apologize if this sounds ruder than I intend, 100% "GW hobbyists" rather than wargamers who might sample a variety of games including Warhammer. They basically live and breathe Warhammer and consider no other game system to be able to hold a candle to it.

As many other have said GW is growing from what I see.
The city I live in has three local gaming stores and about 5 seperate "game nights" at various venues (such as Heffers or Town halls .etc). Nearly all of them have games of Warhammer going, even some having 2-3 rooms booked out where Warhammer takes up most the space.
The warhammer store here too is always quite busy.
Not only that but where I used to live in London the local Warhammer shop has had another LGS open up directly next door. Now I would of assumed this would cause a rivalry since this new LGS is a retailer of warhammer stuff too but in reality both are rammed solid and work together on events.

I was never big in campaigns either too much dedication. A quick in and out pretend I was never there is my goal..... Or was til aos now it is avoid the store incase people hunk I am part of that crowd.
AoS brought in a lot of pre teens only around here so a lot of adults quit going to the shop because we half expect the parents to call the cops thinking they are predators in a kids toy store playing with their 12 year olds. And everyone has to admit a 12 year old playing toys with a 28 year old man is....... A concern.

40k isn't dead, it's just Age of Sigmar is getting more popular in my area so it feels like it's dying. You can still get a game of 40k easily if you want.
Also 30k is growing a little so that's cool.

Fair and valid point. though in our case the age demographic (right term?) hasn't changed.

Nope, we've been growing so much we're taking over previously unaffiliated gaming days at our local shop, and GW opened a new store in the area (though our store has better stock and a discount...so for folks who play with us, there's not much reason to go there). What it does mean though is a ton of new players getting started, and then growing out of the 2 tables they have at the new shop, wheras we have 15+ 40k sized tables.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Gaming is dying at the club I go to.
But, which games get played, 40k Kill Team is a staple since it came out again recently.
Lots and lots of other games get tried, we get a game or two in, and then it does off. But 40k, even if just small games, gets played most weeks.
X-wing is probably the other, with Epic showing up every few weeks.

Community here seems to vary by store.
The one I frequent has a small, but active community. But we're not tournament types. So we play lots of 2v2 games and such. But we're trying to get HH going, so that's a slow build anyways.
I'd say it's anything but dying.

A few years ago I would have said that it's dying in my area, but now I think it's on a bit of a resurgence. Some of this is probably due to GW's efforts, but I think a lot of it is being bolstered by general interest in boardgames and table top games growing dramatically over the last few years. As more and more people are showing up to play games at the local game stores, the 40k people are starting to come back, too (or maybe new players, I'm not actually sure).

I'm about to move to Palm Beach, Florida, and it looks like the scene is pretty much on life support there. I lived in South Florida 2013-2015 and there never was much outside of a community in Miami. Hopefully I can get a group a little more invigorated.

40k isn't dead, but it's not growing either. People have less money than before and are often switching to historical games like Saga or Flames of War. Getting new kits is also problematic as we have to order them from abroad and our local shops don't get individual kits, only boxed sets like BaC, BoP and Blood Bowl. Besides, many people don't speak english well and as GW has neglected russian-speaking countries for many years, many people simply can't get information about the rules and codices in a language they could understand.

I'll be honest and say it's stagnated.
Rules creep and codex disparity is real. As a result we've seen growth in Warmachine, Bolt Action and 30k.
And I'll be honest. 30k is fun. Because most people are on the same baseline with the same options. It becomes somewhat more tactical rather than who brought what undercosted unit.
