This was largely not what I saw/experienced when I lived there from 09-12. I would be interested to hear from those who live there currently to see how much has changed. When I was there, the Turks were generally speaking, an insular, outcast group. In large part due, I think, to an identity crisis. Many German youths born of Turkish parents (as in, first generation immigrants) and were regaled with stories of Turkey. So, they'd go to Turkey (seeing how they didn't exactly fit in in Germany owing to language spoken in the home, and perhaps some of the attitudes), but the Turks living in Turkey would basically say "GTFO, you're German" and they'd head back to Germany where many already felt unwelcome.
