@Dreadaw69: Thank you! I love most of the older citadel and marauder miniatures - they’re a joy to paint!

@Verthane: lol thank you, good sir!

So it’s been quite a while since my last post... mainly real life getting in the way, the regular artist blues and a small Averland Warband for Warhammer Seige scenarios distracting me!

Despite this I’m back into my original project - The work of Love in the name of the Dark Prince....

So, now that I’m finally done with all of The Cult of The Rising Sun’s sub factions and also finished with all Role playing minis for the WHFBRP campaign against the Cult I can now go back and focus on some older minis I’ve had laying around for The Rising Sun’s ranks!

To break my hiatus we have one of my favorite Miniatures sculpted by the incredibly talented Bob Naismith:

After the build...

I LOVE this model and really can’t wait to paint him. I have the dismounted version of him I posted earlier in the blog which I think will be pretty cool for narrative and Warband battles! I love the character of this model as well as it’s pose - it reminds me of a psychedelic fantasy poster from the 80’s. I opted for a newer Dark Elf warrior shield so I had a bigger smooth surface for some fun freehand work... What’s also very interesting about this model is that it has a very unique mount. It is known as a “Dragonhorse” (whatever that is) and it also seems that this mount never had any rules or other sculpts. So if anyone has any information about this “Dragonhorse” I’d love to know lol. I also found something pretty cool while flipping through Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Datkness. I love reading both Slaves to Darkness and Lost and Damned from time to time for inspiration and unique rules ideas for scenarios. While going through the Slaanesh army list in the back I found this little sketch for Dark Elf Cavalry:

It was a pretty fun surprise to see this sketch since it’s clearly this old Dark Elf Lord - which also makes me think, I wonder if this sketch (and all the sketches from the army lists for that matter) was actually a concept design for the mini? If anyone knows I’d be interested in that too!

This interesting find had inspired me to sketch a few of my own concepts for his possible shield design:

I think I’ll be going with the Slaaneshi Sun looking one (bottom left) but I have time since I’m still playing around with colors on my head for the mount lol...

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll be working on a few projects for the Cult of The Rising Sun... along with some more Slaaneshi Dark Elf Warriors!

... more to come very soon!!

What a great vintage mini. I like the bottom left one best, followed by the top left one.

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!

@Verthane: thanks! You know I love my classic sculpts lol.

So a small update for today.

I was really excited after assembling this model that I jumped right into painting!

I love the armor on this guy. It’s very warped looking and suits chaos perfectly!

I love the little details on this mini. As an aside I LOVE the demonic Face mask on his helm, like his on foot version, and while I kind of wish that he had the helm down - I do love the sculpt’s face. It’s very characterful (although I feel like a broken record in regards to these early marauder/Citadel minis lol).

When, painting the shield design I decided to go with a variation of the bottom left Symbol in my last post. In a way I wanted to make something that looked like the Symbol Of Slaanesh, making the top a bit like a Sun and the whole thing together to be similar to a tree (as if the warm rays of Slaanesh’s grace will help The Rising Sun’s influence and pleasure grow...

Well, that’s it today... much more to come soon!!!

That is a great old sculpt, and a nice job you've done on it.

While the elf is familiar enough, I've never seen his dragonhorse thing before! What a great mount, and you really rocked it with that dark paint scheme. Interesting to think how that dragonhorse became the cold ones of today.
