I always give my Fire Dragon Exarch the flamer option. He still has his Melta bomb to throw if I need to (and can get close enough). In this way the unit is more versatile, yet loses nothing but range, which for Dragons isn't an issue since to need to get close anyway.

But that's really the only "grenade" that I use.

My reivers throw them for the second charge - the stupid 6 inch grenades are never in range for the first charge.

The Aux grenade launcher means my intercessors are using them as often as they can. Bolter shenagians aside, a frag grenade at a decent range is a nice tool to have

I play DG so every unit if in range throws grenades. If a casual game I'll bring along a Biologus to take advantage of the DG strat for the whole unit to throw S4 D2 grenades - it's a gimmick but when it works, it works really well!

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Whatever happened to meltabombs? I can’t think of any SM units that have them any more now.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

If you’ve a spare 5pts buy them, otherwise they’re a very short ranged attack you’ll likely use once per game at most, and could have bought something else with instead.

I play 7th and we throw grenades...been playing for 5 1/2 years and started doing it last year. We use a D8 instead which is much better!

I think they are restricted to a few units now as well (FAQ’d to give them to a few more IIRC) The criminal part is that you can’t use them in CC. Which was their whole point of being.

I’ve yet to take one in 8th. Still a bit torqued about their changes.

There are exactly two space marine units that can take them in 8th ed. Tactical marines (as from faq) and assult marines. They can only take it on their sergeant.

As soon as a marine moves to a veteran squad, scout squad or switches his jump pack to a bike they all forget how to use meltabombs.

Compare this to any older editions where everyo e but terminators could take them

Melta Bombs would be a bit better if they were bought for the squad.

They would still be limited to one throw in the shooting phase, but it would let you field something like a Melta Gun Special Weapon, Combi Melta Sergeant, and still let the squad throw a melta bomb. makes a nice little anti tank package out of 5 Tactical Marines.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

I have several character units in my Space Marines army that are almost always better off tossing a Krak Grenade than firing their bolt pistol. This is almost always the case for my Honour Guard and Apothecary.

Whenever my DAs are in range, and that happens a *lot* a Plasma Grenade does quite a bit.

Even moreso on my DA exarchs with no other shooting attacks or just a pistol.

I'm still bitter my Hawks lost grenades.

You'd still be better off buying two Stormbolters instead.

Wargear inconsistency is definitely an issue, and limiting Melta Bombs to those units isn't an incentive to take them, simply because it isn't an item worth trying to use.

You probably have more grenades than lascannons.

With my Guard and Marines, I pretty much always throw a grenade if I am in range.

I play a lot of cities of death missions in my gaming group, so grenades go off very frequently due to the automatic 6 hits.
