Grenaders stratagem with Infantry Squads is -supposed- to be better than Lasguns, but I've never had it break even.
Statistically it is better than non-FRFSRF within rapid fire range for infantry squads, however I think the best use of a grenadiers stratagem is by stormtroopers shooting against vehicles. Plasma rifles are still better, but the non-plasma scions throw their krak.
That is if your stormtroopers live long enough to get in range.

I have a squad of cqc Noise Marines with Chain Swords and a Champ with a Doom Siren and a Power Sword. Their bolt pistols are terrible, but I throw Grenades with them as often is I can. Throwing Grenades on Death is fun. It was glorious when they could throw them at their feet when they died in cc.
Had three squads of Dire Avengers lob a few plasma grenades into possessed, while the rest of the squads shot at cultists. Later managed to finish off a DP with a plasma grenade.
The higher strength and better AP help though, compared with normal frag grenades.

Death Guard and very rarely. The only times I do is when I get overwatch and can use a stratagem to allow every member of a squad to throw blight grenades.

Do the grenade launcher from infantry squads count towards grenades? If so I use them every game because they're cheap, can serv as emergency anti tank, and I like the weapon's look.
Otherwise I never use hand genades.
40k: Necrons/Imperial Guard/ Space marines
Bolt Action: Germany/ USA
Project Z.
"The Dakka Dive Bar is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure you might not find a good amasec but they grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for ratlings being thrown through windows and you'll be alright." Ciaphas Cain, probably.
Last edition, yes. I almost always tossed an extra frag/krak grenade downwind. Every little bit helps and all, and it was always cute to use Defensive Grenades to spam Blind checks.
I thought about a list with 3 model veteran units. 3 of them could fit in a rhino with a captain. 3 of them plus captn would also be a vanguard detachment. They disembark and can throw 4 grenades, because they are 4 units. Its also possible with 2 model veteran units, then 4 units would fit in a rhino, plus captain, plus lieutenant, throwing 6 grenades, re-rolling hit and wound rolls of 1 for the grenades. The deployment count would be pretty small, 6 units in one rhino.
I throw krak grenades more frequently than frag grenades, and even then usually with Intercessors and their auxiliary grenade launcher rather than with a unit that has to throw them by hand.
I also find that I remember to use them more when they're Eldar plasma grenades and S4/AP-1 rather than the S3/AP- of Imperial frag grenades. A Guardsman running around with a lasgun swapping four FRF/SRFed S3 lasgun shots for d6 S3 grenade shots is trading down, a Corsair flying around with a lasblaster swapping three S3 lasblaster shots for d6 S4/AP-1 grenade shots is trading up.
If you're within 6", throwing a grenade is better than a single pistol or bolter shot.
My CSM characters use them all the time, whenever they can. Krak grenades are awesome on jump-characters for punking multi-wound models.
The best part is everyone forgets they exist.

I forget about them way more than I should. I sometimes remember with my characters with no guns, and I have tried using Tau's Photon Grenades in overwatch (I usually miss even with T'au sept though, it's sad).
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I throw grenades nearly every time I can. It seems my Gemina Superiera and Serephim Superior throw Krak Grenades more then they use their Bolt Pistols.
I've even been known to pass up using a Bolter on occasion to toss a grenade.

Bolt pistols?
I actually just sawed off all my BP for chainswords.
I throw grenades (or remind people to throw grenades) often enough. The main issue is of course range. It's often better against a charging model if you luck out and roll well.
Yes, at every chance i get with my militia squads, mainly frag nades mainly to compensate the bad BS of 5+ and to gain a even bigger numbers advantage.
I play R&H khorne covenant, so after nades and rapidfire lasguns/ autogun dakka i charge for the sweet s4 and strike first, backed up by NKVDerm... I mean command squads with banners that allow for a attack after a model dies in melee.
Did surprisingly well, granted i count about a 3rd of attrition before i am in charge range and in melee as given even on heay LOS blocking tables aswell as another 3rd gone in the first turn of melee so 10-14 militia men left, depending on morale check.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units." Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?" Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?" GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!" Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.
