With this and the female Rogue Trader from Kill Team, it's almost as if GW are admitting they're terrible at sculpting female faces. They're starting to cover them at every opportunity.

The female psyker from this set and the female magus as well as the female genestealer passenger for the ridge runner have uncovered faces if I recall correctly

You are absolutely correct. I’m embarrassed to say how poorly thought through my argument was. Consider it rescinded.

Can anyone remember, but was “more female models” one of the things that popped up in the survey? ‘Cause it’s definitely starting to feel like GW have changed direction on this (in a good way).

Some of these new models are frankly awesome.
Can almost forgive the lack of interchangeable parts
if they make every possible permutation of every possible character
as well as they have some of these.

GW it seems may be aiming for the first and best print on demand kiosk or mail order automated service and delivery systems.
So, whereas hobby dudes have cheap 3d printers, they have the best 3d printers that print spin molds.
Customer walks up to a cad interface, choses model/set/kit (with associated discounts for bulk, to keep the printers working and the molds spinning)
walks home and an hour later an automous space marine dronebot delivers to the doorstep.
Turnkey franchises can be sold to licensed GW dronebot mechs and techs.

I been told for my local redshirt GW aim it's to include more and more mixed moles in future releases with a more equal ratio of male to female counterparts like the current stormcast or some Necromunda gangs.

Aside some special armies or units like Space marines or Incubus just to name a few.

There was some occasion that required GW comment about a lack of female representation a while ago, wasn't there?

I seem to remember them saying they were working on it and you'd start to see it being addressed going forwards.

The official 40K Facebook page has been quoted as mentioning that better representation of females in rules and miniatures has been a major piece of feedback they've been receiving over the last couple of years, and they're committed to improving it. According to them, due to the way that the studio works up to three years in advance, the actual results of this new direction have yet to be revealed in their entirety. So I'd say that based on the timeline, it definitely popped up in the survey, but that wasn't the only source of it.

On a different and highly pedantic note, doesn't the announcement that the Combat Arena miniatures will be a part of the next expansion for Blackstone Fortress make the new carry case a tad outdated already? Has enough room for the core set and the Dreaded Ambull expansion, but I don't think there's space for all five new explorers on top of that. Not that they don't make larger carry cases that are more than capable of storing everything and then some for the game's foreseeable future, but I suppose it's worth noting before dropping that much money on a labelled piece of kit with a more pressing limit on its utility.

It will always be out of date if they do a new case per expansion or two though.

I see the plan as having quite a few expansions and support for the game

I... Really don't agree this is happening. I'd argue the opposite is happening, in fact, with new things appearing in bundles first (Abomiant, Wrath and Rapture daemons and now this) to maximize traditional sales. There isn't any move to 3D printers, and a lot points to a focus on buying directly from GW: all the direct only items, and the big buzz of limited re-releases are -always- direct only and always focused on what GW thinks will net them a cash influx (sometimes, but not always related to that months normal releases, i.e. green skins alongside gloomspite), with zero customer input.

Also, 'walking up to a CAD input' is just weird. CAD programs are expensive, and putting them in kiosks is just asking for damages. The CAD is completely unnecessary for the customer as well- they aren't going to be designing models in any way. It's also 2019, so there is no reason at all just to have something other than their webstore online as the point of contact. (Other than traditional sales in shops, in a limited number of places).

There also isn't any reason to have printers within drone range of people. A major distribution hub per country/region is more than enough.

From what I understand current 3D printers are good for masters, but can be slower for mass production when compared to regular casting methods. I'm sure if GW could shift mass production to a means that wouldn't require 100K moulds to be produced they'd leap on it because it would present a vast long term saving for them. Probably their biggest single cost is new moulds for plastic models so if they could cut that cost out of their system it would skyrocket their profits.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

GW have zero interest in 3D printing beyond resin master models and running off a few prototypes for the painters to do up prior to release. They don't see it as a threat, they don't see it as part of their business, and they're maintaining those points of view even as companies approach them with detailed plans as to how it could help them and as people who were in contention for jobs with them get tired of being jerked around and set up in direct competition.

I think they're right to a degree - heck right now they don't even need to try to discourage 3D printing, there are plenty of self appointed Volunteer Copyright Police in the community who've taken it upon themselves to enforce purity for them - but also pretty complacent. That said, it probably won't hurt them in the long run even if they don't see the turning point coming - if End Times/AoS launch proved anything, it's that they're pretty much "too big to fail" in wargaming terms, capable of weathering just about any market shift or mistake for long enough to change course and return to viability.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Is it already that time of year where someone mistakes current 3D printing technology for a matter replicator and claims the entire tabletop gaming industry is about to collapse because of it?

Crusader: Want more than 1, hope it's available separately

AdMech: space saved in my kill team for him

Servitor: Was looking recently at buying some. Will wait now for plastic ones.

Psyker:Have about half dozen psykers already, one more won't hurt

Rogue Trader:........GW seem to struggle with their rogue traders. Didn't like Elucia Vhane to start with, still not keen, Janus Draik is a bit better. This one is worse the Vhane. Expect this one will have the same load out, Heirloom Pistol and Monomolecular Cane-rapier. I also expect the PL and points will probably not match either of the other two. EV PL:4 Points:45, JD PL:2 points:50

Will I get the set, yes. I want a rogue trader force, but I won't be getting it for the trader, she will be a grudging bonus figure.

Well, they're not Primaris Lieutenants but a bunch of highly excentrical (named) individuals. They're good models for what they are, though I can see them, with Draik as the most 'normal' one, not being everyones taste. I guess a bit more generic RT would be a good addition so you have a variety to choose from.

GW seem to like taking rogue trader down the super intricate bizzareo technology and random assortment of accoutrements. I think it would be neat to have a couple of super sleek actually sci fi looking traders rather than the more steampunk vibe that has been going recently. However that is certainly.just a personal.choice,.and I can't deny that the sculpts themselves do.look really good, just not to.my tastes.
