Or purple. Druchii Violet works well on gold AND to wash unhealthy looking skintones.

I use that [Expletive Deleted] on everything.

Yes, the purple wash works great to tie-in with blue armor or add more contrast to orange (in this case).
Really good idea.
I found that best for Thousand Sons (magic / odd looking), the brown is for an old and dirty look.

Okay, all done here.

My models all tend to look like they are from "Hasbro": they are clean cultists.
You have inspired me to have a go at one of the CSM's to add for a possible kill team as well.
But I think this is the last picture of my stuff I will post here, it is all about the OP here.

Finished my last one for this kill team as well.
Feel good about it. Much better than I was doing.

After much deliberation I have decided to paint an IG Knight Commander Pask in the white base style Greatbigtree showed me.

My Goal is to go from Primed to done by Friday and use him in my first tournament since returning on Saturday.

Here is my primed figure.

Damn this was fast. The tank part needs some work but Pask Boi is done quick. Super quick. Daym I like it too.

Honestly I was chill painting while watching twitch and this was done in like 2-3 hours.

I do like fast. I would have a couple suggestions. You might want to try softer washes. Instead of black wash over the light grey, maybe a mix of the original grey and some black. On the back of his hat, for example, the black at the bottom is perhaps too strong.

Something I hadn’t mentioned that’s a useful thing is you can “sponge” excess wash by cleaning and lightly drying your brush ( a couple light swipes on paper ) and then, with the tip pointed at an upward angle, touch the excess wash.

The wash will flow back into the bristles. Particularly useful where two colours meet in a crevice, so you don’t get an overflow pool.

You could experiment with thinning your paint to get your desired highlight levels on the ridges, and custom washes would be the next step I’d advise trying.

The technique is quick and easy. You can experiment on dollar store toys to see how different colours will look on details. You can also play with “how thin can I make this” to try paler versions of the same colour. You can build shadows by using thinner colour on top, and thicker colour in shade, for example. This happens somewhat naturally with thin paint, as it will tend to collect towards the bottom of a shape. I try that sometimes to see if “from the pot” washes will do what I’m looking for or if I need to customize it.

May your armies go from grey to... grey with more colours!

I did go back in with grey and lightened up the shadows with highlights. My lighting isn't the best so either I go too dark or too light that and also my skill level XD. I am being very ham fisted with the washes.

It’s all good. A bit of practice and you’ll have the skill of an enthusiastic amateur.

Pask was a nice surprise,
Love the model.
I agree that possibly a brown shader rather than black would have been a bit softer but you cannot argue with the results.
Well done!

Pask is a great model. Keep them coming!

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Had a crazy week and forgot to up date.

I have been watching videos and learning tricks like wet blending and how to properly do layering.

Also I have gone down a rabbit hole to find true metallic metal paints that I really like or learning to use the Vallejo and Army painter metallics I have properly. I hear scale 75 or Vallejo Air are the primo top of the notch stuff but I saw some modeling metallics used on WW2 fighter plane models that gives a near chrome finish.

Look at this it is bananas

http://blog.nicnilov.com/2015/01/metallic-paints-for-scale-modeling-review-part-one/

I did metallic blending on a cannon turret and got it to looking like a spent bullet shell. I did add a wash and black and grey after to look like it has been fired a lot.

Did layering on some tank side gun holders with dark brown, dark tan, and dark green underneath to let the textures come through. It looked junky so in the end I covered it with another layer but the colors underneath still show through.

Got some Battle Tech models! Going to try things I have been picking up watching painting videos. My list goes like this.

Zenith highlighting while priming

Edge highlighted with at least 2 levels of contrast.

Some random free hand combat damage on the armor.
