A couple of comments regarding Humanoid's post -

The M1 can be upgraded to the IPM1 for one point. It boasts slightly improved front armor, and is generally seen as a good buy if you're buying tanks to support an infantry company. In a tank company, they're usually seen as too expensive.

The T-64 is generally seen as better than the T-72 because it can take an ATGM launcher that gives it a longer range and heavier AT value.

I would go Israeli, so then you can also play Fate of a Nation style games or regular Team Yankee.

How much do you like painting tan?

A lot actually! I ordered Oil War, Kahlani's Warriors, A Merkava Tank Platoon, A Pereh Platoon, Chaparral Platoon, A Battery of M109's, Two Skyhawks, Jeep Platoon, and 2 Mech Infantry Platoons. I cannot contain my excitement!

I'd just flip a coin...and then definitely paint and play one force before diving into another. If you don't enjoy the game after a month or two, extra money isn't wasted.

PS: Who do your opponents own. Are you interested in playing a historical engagement or will you be playing random stuff like Britain vs. Israel and USA vs. West Germany, etc?

We've got the following confirmed armies: 23 members

2 USA (1 Marine Player)
1 East Germans
2 Warsaw Pact
3 Soviet Union
1 Iranian
1 Israeli (me)
1 French
2 Great Britain
1 West German
4 Iraqi
1 Syria (? I didn't know this was an option, but it makes sense.)
4 Commonwealth of Australia

It's usually not the most competitive choice due to moral rules, but you could always play with allies, if you really, really can't decide on a single faction.

I think I mentioned Syria briefly in an earlier post. Syria is largely a stripped down Iraq that's aligned with the Warsaw Pact. In the fluff, they're Israel's primary opponent.

Yeah, it makes sense. I'm hopeful that they'll get flushed out a little bit. I have no problem with them including equipment that never actually got used (Sgt. York for example).

I got my starter for the Israelis on Saturday. I ordered it with free shipping from a seller on Amazon Thursday afternoon, and it arrived in like a day and a half. Needless to say I was impressed!

I have to say I am really impressed with these models, for 40$ I got two Cobra Gunships, and Three Merkava tanks, data cards, a miniature copy of the rule book, decals, and instructions for building the models.

On top of that, they even included magnets!

One thing that really caught me off guard too, was the size of the models, I wasn't expecting them to be this big. I was thinking they'd be more along the size of hotwheels! I'm excited to get them built.

Unfortunately, I am still waiting on my copy of Oil War and the Perehs to arrive.

Yeah, modern tanks are *big*. Even the light stuff like the Sheridans are bigger than the old WW2-era M4s.

On the other hand, while it occupies more square footage, the modern American M1 Abrams isn't as tall as the M48 and M60.

Yep, Merkavas in particular are not small tanks. Some of the Russian ones can be surprisingly small (they were small/short and had fewer crew). It's fun seeing a 15mm Zvezda M1 Abrams placed alongside a BT-7 or a Panzer 38t from their WW2 range.

Just finished building my kits, overall, I am pretty pleased! The Helicopters were good, easy to build. I had a little trouble with the landing bars, but nothing I couldn't fix myself. The tanks were an absolute blast to build, so simple, yet complex and the attention to detail is great!

Yeah, the size difference between vehicles is pretty intense, the helis look a little big, but when I think about it, I guess that really is the size.

I really don't. Like I said, I had a little trouble with some warping on the heli landing bars, but I was able to fix it quite easily. The rest of the kits were an absolute joy to build and they look great!
