Never been part of the pug or gaming club scene so am not that clued into the etiquette but as a dude with some social anxiety I think I'd be a bit sad if someone refused a game with me unless it was for a reason like they already had a game arranged or had to go for an emergency!

Don't worry, I don't know anybody IRL who would refuse to play a game with somebody if they're both floating.

I think that's just a talk.

Go in to the store. Say you want to play, put out your army out. Get told that, this store plays only X or plays only without X. Now you just have been forced to play in a specific way, without the use of guns or magic.

Even in the above scenario, you still aren't forced to play in a specific way. You can just say you don't want to play in that way, pick up your models, and leave. Or you can talk to your opponent about changing things up. If you decide to remain, it's because you made the choice to accept that way of play.

Karol plays in one of the worst metas (based on their own posts) out there. Apparently if they dont like you/your army they'll purposefully abuse you till you give in. they are also a student and dont have any funds to add to change their army.

if my meta was anything like theirs, I wouldnt play.

I agree. Cuz it sounds outright miserable and why would I want to spend my freetime being miserable?
