Tantalus in Dark Creed, 1CP stratagem to target characters. Its only 12 Str 8, -3ap, 2D shots.
The most common competitive DE build includes a fair number of snipers, doesn't it?
You are not taking them for the Sniper rule and to shoot characters, you are taking them for Str 4 -1ap with 2D and +1 to wound. Its also a way to get 2 guns per 5 b.c the Ossefactor is better but can only take 1 per 5 where the Hexrifle you can take 1 for the Sargent.

I don't understand - are you saying that people playing these competitive lists where they take a hexrifle in every wrack squad and on every haemonculus DONT pump an important aura character full of lead with them?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I think i tried the spammed hex rifles build before. It's....tricky sometimes. First you gotta put em in transports to move them around. 2nd you have to give up liquifiers spam in order to get them. This isn't even accounting for enemies being out of line of sight (behind buildings or behind vehicles). Honestly i think helm of spite does a much better job for far less and honestly i don't think we'll be able to kill enough characters fast enough even with Dark Technomancers. High armor and high inv. saves tend to bounce off hex rifles like the old rubber lance syndrome.
The sad thing with helm of spite though is an enemy might not even have psykers in their army and rather just lots of buff heroes. I still think an enemy psyker going down to helm of spite from perils of the warp tends to be far more devastating and likely than snipers and then it tends to eat through a chunk of other enemy heroes and small elite units. Of course this is only against psykers but luckily helm of spite is just a zero points wargear item so if you take it you don't spend hundreds of points into a unit only really meant to snipe the enemy characters.
