What? What universe are you living in where current 40k is the Magic School Bus levels of child friendly?

Have you seen warhammer adventure yet? That is what I'm talking about.

Ah yes, the childfriendly series with such language as:

"Talen kicked out, but the alien was ready for him. It caught his leg and swung Talen around as if he were a slab of meat. He smashed into a storefront and dropped back down to the ground, gasping for breath. He forced himself to crawl forwards and cried out in pain as the bolas slammed down onto his back.

‘Dirty human cub,’ the alien hissed above him. ‘Teach you to mess with Korok!’

Talen couldn’t get away. He could barely breathe. And yet even now, he could hear his father’s voice in the back of his mind. This is why we destroy the alien. This is why we wipe them out. It’s kill or be killed, son. No concessions. No compromise."

(40k adventures, Secret of the Tau)

Charming. For kids!

It certainly doesn't look like 40k by cover art and the theme. It's still a toned down 40k. I mean it's not like warhammer adventures shows kids meeting the dark eldar or kids meeting the slaanesh daemonettes. It's still more kid friendly.

If 40k was conceived now, it would be Star Trek Discovery.

Grimdark would not describe it. Humor would be replaced with collective guilt and a reckoning with the oppressive Federation. Instead of rolling dice, players with the most DLC would autowin. The people writing the books would be popular antiracism authors and you'd be unpersoned if you criticized their work.

To be fair some factions are way over-powered vs others. If you played 4th or 5th ed 40k and compared it to 7th or 9th in game balance you'd realize what a broken mess the game is right now in terms of balance. I don't even know if it's a good idea to have a genestealer cult player play against space marines or dark eldar without giving extra points for the weaker faction to even things out in balance.

Blazing Saddles could be made today for the same reason it was made in 1974. It is making fun of the racists and racism. Life of Brian could be made today and would actually meet with less pushback than it did when it came out where people were calling for it to be banned for being blasphemous (despite said people never actually watching the film).

Lindsay Ellis did a great video on Mel Brooks.

Exalting for referencing the Lindsay Ellis vid.

To answer the OP: As far as the minis are concerned, I think we'd see a lot more greebles and details due to the proliferation of CAD. We might also see more limited runs and upgrade sprues since this $current_year version of 40k would take place with 3d printing being a full thing. I'd actually be interested to see how GW would handle being free of plastics and molds.
