Did you add gamemode=0 to your sever properies file? This specifies survival mode over creative mode and I don't know what the game defaults to.

Also do you have a backup of your world from 1.7.3 or is this a new world created fresh in 1.8 that is entirely ocean? If you have a backup from 1.7.3, try running that through 1.8pre2, perhaps 1.8pre1 corrupted it?

The videos I recorded using a copy of the Dakka world on my own test server. I will still have to test the full release of 1.8 on the live server before we go forward with the upgrade. If anyone wants me to test or try anything else on my test server, I can try it out this evening.

It was a new server that I started when the 1.8 pre-release was released, and yeah the game mode is set to 0. Animal Spawn is set to =true as well, but we havent seen an animal as of yet. Im guessing its just a bugged biome, and the only way to fix is to either:

a) restart the server

or

b) man up and take survival mode to a whole new level

They've just released 1.8 apparently, but Minecraft.net is down.

I will do some testing in the evenings, but will wait till at least this weekend to update the server. Patience.

It's not letting me install the update. Does anyone else have this issue?

Only bug I've found so far is that when you try to shift-click an item into an Inventory or Chest that is already full, the game crashes. Seems alright besides that.

Gah, they still haven't fixed that? Guess we'll be waiting on some more patches...

Did we ever figure out whats happening with a possible server reset?

Go to the bottom of page 200. The Dakka world seems fully compatible with 1.8pre2, although I will do more testing with 1.8 (final).

We won't need a reset.

Still up in the air for a reset for the official release in November though. If we do a reset, I will copy across structures, but we can discuss that closer to the time.

1.8 is pre-compatible. Just tested it with my mass-base world. Minor warpage with ravines etc appearing in the middle of nowhere (one of my roads got cut) but other than that.

Creative mode is kinda still buggy, you can actually exit to the void....which is bad.

Awesome, 1.8 is out. Good to see some new people who we can hopefully trust. What are the plans for the server?

The server is not running 1.8 yet. Probably not till this weekend (if all goes well).

Just tried 1.8.

There seems to be a few bugs with my version. For instance, I don't have any food bar, and can't get any chicken or beef meat. I can't craft doors either apparently.

And are endermen supposed to make the sounds of zombies?

Sounds like you started in "creative" mode rather than survival mode.

C418 has made and provided them the Endermen sounds, but they are not in 1.8 yet. Maybe 1.9?

Crrently 1.8 is unplayable for me, i keep gettin the "Out of memory". Yet I cant do anything about it because of my 32-bit system. Even since I formatted my comp its been hell tryin to play Minecraft.

I did have a 64-bit system installed but for w/e reason I now have a Windows 7 32-bit back up disk :/

Just updated and had a look at it. When the server gets updated I'm going to restart Arcadia in an ocean biome.

Edit: Endermen are definitely annoying, ran up to one with a sword and it vanished for about 10 seconds before reappearing behind me...

I'm probably going to have to just go spider hunting for the Wool (make it out of thread- can I do that?)

or even just 1 string in each of your inventory crafting slots.

Pigs seem impossible to find for me, had to switch to peaceful to deal with the lack of food entirely at the moment.

Actually, they're not that hard to kill. A bit stressing when they teleport away and reappear out of sight, but they're not too dangerous. They also drop "ender pearls" or something like that. I wonder what you can do with it.

Nope, I did start in SSP.

I simply deleted the bin folder and got rid of all the mods and texture packs I had and downloaded 1.8 again. It works fine now.

anyone having issues connecting to the server? i did not update and i cannot join the server.

They're working on minecraft.net this evening, it's been up and down a bit, and is preventing logging on to the server every now and again.

I saw something weird on my new 1.8 map, a skely was shooting at me and hit a zombie, then the zombie attacked the skely. the skely died ant then I finished off the zombie with my axe.
