I'm looking to increase my range a bit with my Chaos army and have a question. Both Obliterators and Predators are good with range and/or heavy vehicle destroying, but which should I purchase next?
I have 2x Defilers, 1x Land Raider, 3x Rhinos, 1x Forge/Maulerfiend (magnetized), and 1x Heldrake. So I do have enough targets for my enemy if I got the Predator. The Obliterators are just all around good and I do have one right now from a trade (metal booo).

I like predators. Even in last edition the front armor was good enough that if you parked it right, it was hard for anyone to crack the front of it open, as that meant putting yourself in the line of fire of the twin linked lascannon. Obliterators can deep strike, though, so there's that, and they just tend to be easier to use. I expect the predator to be harder to deal with, though.

You certainly have enough armor to saturate enemy AT. Nurgle Oblits are just fantastic and a bit less versatile, but won't give you the consistent turn by turn weapon selection.

Given your current list, I'm leaning towards the Predator. Though, overall I think the Obits are better, the amount of Armor saturation helps here. Either choice will play well.

With all the armor you have the predator seems like a good choice. With the new vehicle damage chart it will even survive longer, and will end up being cheaper on points than a unit of obliterators.

Obliterators on the other hand are a lot more flexible. Being able to switch from anti armor to anti infantry depending on your needs. With the ability to deep strike, being easier to hide in buildings, take marks, and a 5+ or 4+ invuln save(if you take MoT)I'd say that Obliterators are the better buy.

Either are good choices to me. It comes down to armor of the tank vs the versatility/mobility of oblits.

OK

Obliterators are for deep striking close to the enemy. They're very inefficient to have shooting long range. Predators on the other hand can park in the back and shoot all game. I prefer Obliterators because I like getting up in the enemy's face, and CSM can't really outshoot anybody anyway.

I'm starting to lean more towards the Obliterators, since I have one right now, another box would give me four. They seem more versatile and I haven't had a game where I brought more than three vehicles. Usually is two rhinos, and a forgefiend or defiler. Plus the Oblits will go good with my terminator sorc I am in the process of assembling as well. Thanks for the comments/suggestions guys.
It won't be until my bday in August anyway.

Though i like feilding oblits, I think what everyone is saying about armor saturation is true. Try fielding a list with as many armored vehicles as possible. That way you can experiment with the effect that armor saturation has on a list. I usually run a armor saturated deathguard list. My foes are usually so worried about having to deal with what comes out of the landraider that choosing to shoot at the vidicators is tough. When i run oblits i find them to deal out less damage than i would like and that they are too easy to deal with in melee. Strangly they do well against orks or at least they seem to.

I say experiment with armor saturation. Dont invest yet.

The Heavy Support section is a battle royale for slots right now.
The new vehicle rules made it even more competitive.

I believe the Predator is cheap and very versatile.
The oblits are for deep striking, now more than ever.
The earlier problem with the Pred was armor saturation but now it is resolved with the new rules, whereas the Nurgle Oblits remain pretty much the same.

Are heavy support slots not currently an issue?

I would go all armour or none. Saturate AT or render it worthless.

My favorite Predator was the FW Relic Predator with a conversion beamer and 2 lascannons. Outstandingly good at blowing up vehicles from range, I was using a couple to snipe waveserpents in 6th.

I imagine 3 of these would wreck face in 7th edition.
