There's no real reason unless you're really tight for points. 15 points to double your survivability against small arms is a great investment.

I only run the carapace armor when I am using plasma vets. The 4+ helps on get hot rolls.

Yup, carapace for plasma vets, camo for everything else. Vets are my go to gun line units, with a heavy weapon and three specials. Camo and snare mines make it tough to displace them.

I put carapace armor on my command squad vets, but that's because they're running around on foot with Straken.

Carapace armour used to be 30 points for Veterans (which made the squad almost 50% more expensive). Many people probably don't realize that it's now half the price and much more reasonable.

Against Tau, the 4+ save is essential. They kill IG on a 2+ with their basic guns at 30"; having Carapace means that at least you get a save against that. No, it won't save you against HYMP-sides or Riptides, but against Fire Warriors (and Submunition shot, which I think is AP5?) it's great.

I still pay 30pps for carapace on veterans. ^^; But then, I don't use many veteran squads since IA3SE. Infantry Platoons are just plain better value. When we get an Elysian update for C:AM, that'll probably change back again.

In general, I just don't find that 4+ is enough better than 5+ to be worth taking, since there's a lot of AP4 in my meta still.
