Me and some friends are planning to start a narrative campaign, which hopefully I will be putting up, and wondering if anyone out there has any helpful tips. We haven't made up much of the rules or background. Thank you to anyone who helps.

First of all, congratulations on your decision to run the best sort of campaign in my humble opinion and personal flavour.
Now in my experience the key is to have a story that actualy makes the players feel like they are helping to shape battels to come, and that the decisions they make as regarding what objectives/ missions to undertake will come back to haunt them or reward them, all dependig on the outcome of the battels to be fougth. That and their own army commanders can develop a long and bloody feude with their enemis as time drags on.
Also reward players for doing well is just as important as punishing players( albeith in a mild or fitting way) for their army lists, that and make sure that everyone has a fair shot at victory.

First tip:
Make sure your participants will be up for every date, I did try to make a campaign once, however the flame did pout as people were not able to make the dates repeatedly..
Second tip:
Look at Miniwargamings stuff, the current narrative batreps are very good for looking up for inspiration.
Third Tip:
If you want to make the campaign truly fitting the background of the fluff, I would say if you think or have any doubts on your fluff going over the top, then check with the community to see if they are OTT.
Hope this helps

With a narrative campaign, it's all about the story.
Involve the players, and make sure they participate in decisions on what happens next.
Name the armies and commanders, making feuds and previous victories or defeats a matter of pride for the next game.
Issue regular in-character updates (a newsletter or equivalent is often a good idea) so that everyone knows that's going on and what's happening next.
Write up battle reports - indeed, create a campaign thread here on Dakka to let us know how it's going.
The biggest danger to a campaign is a slow fizzle out of interest, so keep it fresh, keep it new and keep it interesting!

So from what I'm kind of getting (and please correct me if I'm wrong) but there seems to be two main ways of having campaigns.
1) The narrative is mostly in the battles as it goes from one battle to another with little to no strategy (troop movement, resource collection, etc.) between. An example is Thor665's Pyres of Petod: Chaos Ascendant.
2) The battles are like most normal games and the narrative lies in the strategy in between games.
I honestly don't think I could have described this any worst , but I hope I got my point across.
