So lets say the ultramarines find out about the red thirst. They for some reason decide to take out the blood angels.

No successor chapters for either as they are busy fighting... Something else.

Who do you guys think would win? Two of the greatest chapters with the greatest chapter masters known at the time.

Completely depends on so many things..
If it's in ultramar.. Well that's obvious...
If it's ship to ship.. In Baal territory.. With only astartes.. Probably blood angels..
Does it include many of the PDF of ultramar that can call on? Or the many blue navy assets at their disposal?

Ultamitaly for such a gak and giggles discussion (since if the blues found out they would let the inquisitors deal with it)
I take it were discussing the 1000 blues vs the. 1000reds.. On the ground... Reds hands down.

Blood angels rapidly turn into khornate berserkers and massacre the ultramarines. The ultra successor chapters hunt them down so the blood angels (now the blood devils) flee to the safety of the eye of terror.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Now the blood angels successor chapters have to deal with their own fallen angels, just like the dark angels and their unforgiven,.

The inquisition covers the whole damn thing up and sanguinala is no longer celebrated.

Ultra's, they've got the better record and the flaw is usually portrayed as, well, a flaw that the Ultramarine's lack.

In such a war, regardless of who kills more of the enemy, ultimately, the only benefactors will be the Sisters of Battle.

Once the glory boy abhumans have wiped each other out, only WE will be able to field inferno pistols and flamerbacks worth taking! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Lets be realistic here (I know I know). The Blood Angels are one of the proudest chapters in all of the Imperium. If they were found out, most of them would willingly surrender themselves OR kill themselves... most likely through needless combat against overwhelming odds like they are doing now.

Good Ol' Texas

You mention Calgar, Tigurius, etc; don't forget we have Mephiston aka the guy who tears apart Daemon Princes with his bare hands, the Sanguinor (who is the living embodiment of good 'ol Sanguinius), Dante ("the chosen one"), Astorath (Marine Executioner extraordinaire), and most of all, Death Company - a Space Marine at peak efficiency that will not back down under any circumstance.

If it's just 1000 marines vs 1000 marines, I'd actually give to the BA. All on 1 planet, fight to the death. It would probably end with each of them pulling a truce after they steal each other's corpse of a Primarch.

But as warpspider89 states, it won't ever happen realistically.

I would lean towards the Ultras simple because they are better soldiers.

Painted armies:

Orks: 11000 points
Marines: 9500 points
Khorne Marines: 2500 points
Khorne Demons: 1500 points

I'd say Blood Angels because they have the Death Company and the Ultramarines have....nothing.

Ultramarines have Tyrranic War Veterans. :p Honour Guard, too. Those never used to be generic everybody gets them units.

So they have a different name for Sanguinary guard and people who will do well against the Tyranids. How useful.

This is the Chapter known for throwing almost its entire force into a Space Hulk to get eaten by Genestealers, taking them down to only fifty Astartes. Upon seeing another Space Hulk six hundred years later, they try the same thing again but only using more than eighty Terminators (even though Terminator armour is equally as useless against Genestealers as power armour).

Then again, the Ultramarines are led by someone who (to paraphrase Matt Ward), upon seeing a rocket heading for his face, will consider whether or not to take cover (most likely getting him hit in the face). With their high number of special characters (and judging by the Tyrannic War Veterans as well), Marneus Calgar's tactically genius idea of foregoing helmets is also extremely prevalent.

In short, it's really hard to say.

Wait, so the Red Thirst isn't known about?

Is it really that big a deal that it would be worth losing a first founding chapter and all its successors?

Eh, depends, some of the Chapters like the Blood Angels handle it well. There's others however, specifically one I can't remember the name of that actively eat innocent imperial citizens to prevent themselves from falling to the thirst permanently, and they learned of the ritual from a Lord of Change. They would be uber dead, to the point the Minotaurs would probably be sicked on them.

Obviously some handle it better than others. The Flesh Tearers are awaiting the wrath of the Sisters of Battle for their excesses.

The Flesh Eaters perhaps? I don't know about that Lord of Change bit, but they do have cannibal rituals.

I doubt the Ultramarines would put the Blood Angels down unless they attacked Ultramar for any reason. By that point they'd be traitors. First Founding chapters would be very hard to get rid of without causing waves throughout the other Space Marine chapters unless that first founding chapter was taking part in acts of extreme heresy. Even then it might cause a mini-schism between the original chapter and it's successors against the rest of the Imperium.

The Blood Angels would kill all the Ultramarines. No mercy would be shown, either.

Unless the Dreaded Ward had a hand influencing the story, in which case the Ultramarines would somehow win despite acting like total morons. They would probably ally with a Xenos race to crush the Blood Angels or find a way to suicide valuable assets from other parts of the Imperium so they could take all the glory.

How long will this battle last? I mean if this is a held out campaign, then the blue smurfs win. If this is a short battle, then I believe that the BA's should win out.

The Blood Angels aren't above using xeno allies as stated in the codex about the final defense of their planet. Also, they can ally with the necron! Suddenly it's HH2!

I'd also like to point out that Ward also wrote the Angels book...so the ultimate fate of either side is up to him.

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

All that means is that the Blood Angels will see the Ultramarines coming and submit to their ultimate wisdom, becoming Codex Compliant now that their Spiritual Leige has personally stepped over to show them the error of their heathen ways.

Not sure. Lost track a while ago.

Blood Angels vs. Ultramarines... Red vs. Blue... Hmm........

Alpharius wins. Because Alpharius.

Now in all seriousness (or as much seriousness as I can bring to a sci-fi game world), it really just depends. Who struck first in this battle? What planet are they on? Does either side have any auxillary forces? Are there xenos in the region of their battle? Why are they fighting? Who all is there?

Too hard for me to give a good answer without a scenario in place.

However, my money would probably be on the Blood Angels. They do have the living embodiment of their Primarch, they have the Death Company, Dante is the oldest Chapter Master alive (he'd have to be pretty smart and a good fighter to survive for so long), and Mephiston is a bit of a monster when it comes to his psychic powers.

All hail Lord Slug! All hail Lord Slug! All hail Lord Slug!
