Subject: Necrons vs Ultramarines, 1500 pts.

Greetings, Dakka! With the advent of 7th Edition, I felt it necessary to have one last battle in 6th format. I already have an opponent who's also good for a game, and he'll be playing his Ultramarines.
Sadly, school, practice, and my girlfriend have not left me much time nor money to buy more stuff, or to build and paint. Thus, this list represents what I can produce, though I could probably make an agreement for proxies with my opponent.
HQ
Overlord w/ Scythe, MSS, Orb, Shifter - 190
Lord w/ Scythe, MSS, Weave, Orb - 105
Veiltek - 60
Elites
5x Deathmarks - 95
Gauss Stalker - 165
Troops
10x Tesla Immortals - 170
10x Tesla Immortals - 170
Fast Attack
6x Wraiths w/ 2x Whipcoils - 230
9x Scarabs - 135
Heavy Support
2x Anni Barges - 180
Total: 1500 pts.
The Plan: This is an opponent I have faced before. Knowing him, he'll have two Orbital Bombardments at his disposal (Calgar and a Biker Chapter Master). From what I remember, he played a vigorous defense, only coming out to take objectives. This time, he has noted about being more aggressive with his forces. I intend to respond in kind.
Everyone will be somewhat spread out, with the Barges on one side, the Stalker on the other. The Immortal Squads will shift from cover to cover towards objective(s)/enemies. Scarabs will provide a firing screen for troops. Wraiths will provide counter-attack. In the meantime, the Death-Despair squad will deepstrike and target units of opportunity (Terminators, Calgar), with assistance from the Stalker.
I realize there's not much High Strength stuff in here. Other than that, any suggestions?

I play Space Marines primarily, and often play against Necrons. One of the things you could do to really negate his nasty close combat units is tie them up with the scarabs. Move through cover and avoid template weapons I guess and try to tie up the bike chapter master since he doesn't have hit and run.
With both Calgar and a Chapter Master on a bike, that leaves him just 1000 points or less for troops and heavy support... seeing as he plans to play aggressive, he'll probably bring 3 pods of tacticals and a bike squad for his Chapter Master... so I'd say your wraiths can eat up the tac squads, and scarabs can tie up the bikes... so I really don't think you'll have too much of a problem if he jumps right into your lines.
The real problem is if you have to run at him... he then gets the chance to wipe your scarabs with TFC fire or flamers, and then out-range your barges with lascannons until the explode. You will be alright at the mid-range game I think.

Hey, thanks for the reply, Clincher! Not sure what he'll bring. He did mention he does have Terminators (I'll assume the shooty kind). Any suggestion as to what to counter for those?

Terminators die fast if you make then take lots of saves , the 2+ can only take so much before it fails, so its better to use volume of fire with units like the Tesla Immortals that to shoot then with the annihilators barges.

Tie his terminators up with scarabs if he deep strikes near you, if you can't dedicate shooting to them. Not having hit and run is rough, especially if faced with a fearless bunch of those things.. Can't tell you how many bike squads I've had bogged down by them lol! But that was when creating tons of them was a "thing" not so much now. Honestly rending death makrs aren't bad either, but your tesla will be brutal just in terms of pure volume.

Swap the overlord for Zandhrek, he's cheaper and you'll get his cool special rules. With those, things to remove are counterattack, furious charge, hit and run from his units. Tank hunter, furious charge, counterattack and stealth are all handy for your side.
with the lord, for that many points you might as well convert him to an overlord. If you adjust the wraith and scarab units, you can then give the overlord MSS, SW and scythe, plus get another veiltek. Then, veil the immortal squad with Zandy around the table! Not many people expect that, and the squad can take out devastators etc T1. Try not to get assaulted though, range is your friend.

@Markcron: You know, I honestly haven't thought of taking named characters before this (except maybe Anrakyr, because of the cool model). I might try Zahndrekh for a spin!
@Garretash: yeah, that's what I figure for Tesla vs Marines.
@Clincher: So, instead of having scarabs up front, you're advocating keeping them in the back. Alright, something to consider, then.
Thanks for all the replies! I'll have the battle report up as soon as I can.
