As the title would suggest, I've started thinking about which armies have access to high power (S8 AP3 or better) Large Blast weapons that can be easily twin linked.

The Necron DDA/TS combo is what got me thinking about it - I have historically avoided paying a lot of points for a weapon that only hits what I want it to 33% of the time. I don't like unpredictability when it comes to such a big amount of firepower - it's not reliable in a pinch and that means I need to be prepared to have another unit cover that battlefield role in the event the big gun doesn't do it's job.

The Doomsday Cannon is especially powerful, and it's especially easy to TL it, making it 55.5% to be exactly on target. That, I like. With 3 of them, you're certain to make anything MEQ (Terminators on a good day!) have a really bad day.

What other armies can reasonably and reliably get TL'd Ordnance/Large Blast? Prescience should do the trick for AM, and while Eldar have easy access, they don't have many pie plates to work with (Fire Prism, but it's only S5).

Is the combination worthwhile for most armies anyhow? With Necrons the combo is a no brainers; TS are a great unit to take anyways.

High power pie plates that are actually twinlinked?

hmm.

Besides nubcrons not many.

I believe the Tau special wargear lets you twinlink (not reroll failed) i could be wrong.
Tau also has forgeworld lord of war that has a flying TL Pizza plate at ap3 i think

IG also has wyvern artilery that while isnt high Str has twinlinked.

Eldar can do it easily with Fire Prisms and a Farseer for prescience. I think the FP is a large blast, but I'm not sure.

Necrons got the Doomsday Ark and the monolith that can be twin-linked with a Triarch Stalker.

On the downside, all 3 of those are bad picks

Prescience is technically not twin linked

otherwise IG would take the cake for high strength twinlinkage.

Huh. You're right. Important safety tip, thank you Egon.

I need to remember that the next time I play the Guardsman who was casting Prescience on a Basilisk.

There's nothing wrong with using prescience on a Basilisk. The rules are surprisingly specific on this.

Now that I think about it, Tau riptides don't have access to TL, but you can use a bunch of markerlights to make the BS so high it'll never go anywhere.

It just sunk in that if a Tau list is built and played properly with ample markerlights, it really is: Pick a Squad, and kill every model on a 2+.

I'm surprised none of my Tau opponents have fully abused that. I can see it now: 3 Riptides, 2 Crisis Bodyguards (Commanders w/ Drone controllers) and a couple more squads of marker drones.

Ignores cover, essentially never scatters, and is completely, totally, and utterly unbalanced.

Its an important note.

Prescience does nothing for Template weapons, while twin-linked gives re-rolls to wound.
Both allow Blasts to re-roll scatter however.

I worked this out, for no of ML hits;
4 = A riptide Ion overcharge will hit (just) a vehicle, on all/most scatter vectors + reroll gets hot!
6 = As above, ignores cover
9+ = As above, high change of no scatter or minimal effective scatter.

Good to combine Marko's & Riptides

@ Razerous

I think you erred in your math there. The Riptide is already BS3 - with 6 markers, theres 1 for ignore cover, and the other 5 make you BS 8. You'd have to roll an 11 or 12 (1 in 12 probability) to make the pie move a meaningful amount

Ignoring cover with Markerlights costs two, not one.

Anyone with Pieplates and access to Divination.

How about Precienced Basilisks for Twinlinked and Barrage sniping and Ignores Cover.

I stand corrected on the Ignores Cover.

Truthfully I think we're spitting hairs about nothing, lol. It's a 8/2 Weapon that will basically stay where you put it.

I think I assumed you rolled 10 or less and that may/may not scatter off the edge of a rhino;

2.5" template + 1.5" rhino edge + 7" BS deduction; Should be less than a roll of a 10 or so, taking into account actual overlap.

Good odds I feel, avoid rolling 11 or 12.

Also if you can re-roll 1's to hit; can you also re-roll scatter (is it clear cut & not YMDC)?

Then kill the markerlight sources? If the player uses too many markerlights, he'll have less actual firepower on the table

Not pie plates, those are small blasts at s9. The Strangler s6 is a pie plate, we all so get it on the Exocrine in Living Artillery nodes for s7 ap2.

Ignores cover, essentially never scatters, and costs LoW scale of points to pull off.
I'd rather have a transcendent c'tan over 2 'ignore cover never scatter" riptides. because that's the price range we are talking here for 6 markers each.

BTT
Isn't the new IG artillery tank thing twin-linked? (and shred so he reroll wounds too)
Its not pie plates, but I'd say 4 small plates beat a pie plate.

all pie plates are twin linked.

The front line gaming dude has a tyranid army that does it. Biovores, exocrines, tyranid warrior barb stranglers , they all get twin linked.
