The movie's not out yet and won't be for quite some time, so I don't think anyone can really give an informed opinion. So far the visuals are really great and Aaron Dembski-Bowden has announced he's helping to write it, so it seems like it'll turn out pretty good.
I look forward to it but its taking a long time. I understand that its a well done CGI warhammer 40k movie done for free by major fans, and as such not everything will look like Avatar with solid story and script. I still can't wait.

This. We have not seen a lot but what we have seen blows the equivalent material from the Ultramarines movie out of the water, despite the latter being made by a professional company whereas TLI is made by amateurs in their free time.
Even Ultramarines was done on a relatively shoe-string budget. Something like 11 or 12 million dollars total... which, in Hollywood, is chump-change. Most films budget twice that for catering.
It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
Compare UM's available technology to an engine that TLI uses that didnt exist then. It's kind of a toss-up in that regard.
We also have only seen one rendered minute of film, not a feature-length production. The opening cinematic of DoW was better than UM... and cost equally as much for six minutes of running time. I am not certain that people quite get how CGI works. It is definitely a "get what you pay for" situation.

I don't give a rat's fuzzy tuchus what the animation looks like, I'm far more concerned with the story. They could do it in claymation as far as I'm concerned, as long as the writing is tight, the plot is sound, and the characters are bold as well as nuanced.
Aaron Dembski-Bowden is on board for that particular aspect, so I'm stoked.
First of all good luck not gettin sued by GW.. No seriously.. You need to talk to a lawyer RIGHT MEOW!!!
Second your looking for constructive criticism on Dakka of all places?... LMFAO, dakka knows not this constructive criticism you speak of.. Only nerd rage is known!
Last.. The above criticism of bad voice acting... Yeah I totally agree.. It's what the industry calls "over-acting".

Pretty sure Games Workshop already gave this the green-light. Not the "we're promoting you as part of our stable" green light, but the "we deign to acknowledge your existence, you may traverse our lands without fear of our roving squads of lawyer-berserkers" green light.
The one minute footage was already better than the ultramarines movie. I honestly thought that was a joke, or i'd got the wrong film, like some outdated 90s version. The starship troopers animated series was better animated than the u/m film and i remember watching that in primary school. Like honestly, who did the research into the company gw employed to animate it? Was it jervis? Clearly someone who was still using windows 3.1 or had never seen a pixar film. I know they probably didn't have a huge budget but seriously i cannot fathom how much of a botch up that film was.

Just saying. It could be a LOT worse
BTW, I am in no way associated with these people making the Lord Inquisitor thing. I just think it's really cool and deserves to be on DakkaDakka

Having watched the UM movie and not being completely disappointed, ( I went in with very low expectations, like a D- grade and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a D +). The one thing that currently afflicts the year old trailer is definitely the writing and the voice acting. I understand that a English is not the first language but am hoping that the vocals/script can be sorted out to make something truly spectacular for the fan base. Mad props to the current crew. It's very good right now, visually a triumph. But to leave the film handicapped by non professional writing and voice acting would be a grievous wound to the production as a whole.

It's not made by amateurs, it's made by people in the video game industry and the like. These are professionals, they're just not doing this for profit. Just thought I'd clear that up and give the artists credit where it is due
The original trailer basically does not apply any longer, including the voice acting you are concerned about. The original plan was for a feature-length movie, but it has since been cut down to a 15-minute short. Assets will likely get reused where it makes sense, but the plot will be different due to the much shorter length.

Don't new studios that try to go pro do stuff like that ? a Short fan production to show off their skills and then if it gets realy popular they cash in .
Few facts:
Erasmus Brodau, the mastermind behind this, is greenlit by GW. He must not turn any profit, including donations, from this.
The film went from 10-15 minutes length to 30-40 minutes, but then the contributors didn't deliver what they promised, so he had to cut down to short film length again, sadly.
Therefore the old trailer doesn't have much merit anymore.
He and a few select people do this entire thing in their spare time and they ARE professionals, working as designers and artists in the industry.
Not a fact :
While you can argue about the trailer, the quality of the rendering and the animation is simply astonishing.
Those servitors really drive the feeling home, as does the TDA of the GK. This just oozes 40k!

It's pretty, but you know what the most impressive thing about this trailer is?
Terminator Armour that actually looks like it can move, without completely discarding the original GW designs. :p
(yes, the technical work is excellent, but thats a matter of training, not talent).

If you don't care about the visuals why even bother with the film? Why not just read one of the almost decent black library novels already available?
I am skeptical that the final product will be of the same production values as the trailers we've seen, but that's because I'm a cynic. I hope to be disappointed but I don't expect to be.
Why are poll options so biased? I haven't seem the Ultramarine movie, so basing my opinion of this trailer on a movie I haven't seem is kind of dumb. That said, it looks great, A D-B wrote it, just like D Abnett wrote the Ultramarine movie, so even though it's an unofficial fan movie, it's still written by a BL author. So yes, I'm looking forward to it.
