In my research, I stumbled across the Rak'gol. They're pretty cool, actually. There's not a terribly large amount of information, but what is there is interesting enough and they pull an aesthetic that I really dig. Honestly, if they were modelled, they might have captured my interest enough for me to choose them over Necrons.

I was honestly wondering how popular an opinion that was. I'm guessing they're relatively unknown, but I may beene surprised. Hell, as far as I know they rival the Squats.

As a side note: if anyone can name a novel that features the Rak'gol prominantly, I would appreciate the information.

In the end, I think their lack of fluff is what might cause problems adding them to tabletop. Even then, according to the fluff, their technology is pretty primitive by 40k standards.
They're one of my favorite xenos though so if they do actually manage it while staying in the fluff, I'd buy he codex in a heartbeat.

Would that stay true if they were brought to the table, though? The stuff you play with will always get more focus than the stuff you don't.

I don't know, personally. Perhaps adding them, initially, as captured thralls for Dark Eldar (or some other such justification) could spark an interest.

Rak'gol are pretty well fleshed out in the FFG stuff. I'd think using allies or unbound, you could make a very good counts as force.

From the looks of it they're only found in the FFG roleplaying games, and nowhere else. I've literally never heard of them before just now, and they aren't in any BL novels. I think they'd be interesting to introduce as a one-off model or something, but I don't see them ever getting a whole army considering they were probably conceived of by someone outside GW prime.

They'd prolly just get added to an army.. Either tau inquisitor or dark eldar

I could see them with a minidex as allies for Tau, Inquisition and Dark Eldar like Bob said, but I think they would collide with too many things in tabletop already.

What kind of special thing would you devise for them playstyle-wise? We already have most the tropes fulfilled in 40k and there already are xenomorph-esque non-humanoid aliens in form of the Tyranids.

Yep, the Rak'gol dudes might be a bit intresting, but Hurd is way, WAY ahead in the list of things we want

Honestly, after Admech (that forgeworld now makes), hurd is probably the biggest demand.

"Low tech" ,chaos worshipping, spider-centaur alien marauders? Count me in. Hrud would also be awesome but i am not certain how they could be presented on the tabletop with the strange timewarping distortion field thingy they have going.

I would love to se a supplement with all kinds of minor aliens that you can add into your army similar to the old dogs of war that existed in fantasy. It could include a unit or two for races like hrud, Rak'gol, Squats, all sorts of pirates although not xenos, beastmen, demiurg and Scythians.

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k
AoS, The forgotten order, SE, 3k

I like this idea. Plus, if one particular xeno sells more than the others they always have the option to make it a fully-featured faction.

That's a really cool alien race, but I think Dark Eldar already have their play style. GW won't want another faction that's the same.

Yeah, add me to the Hrud tally. Although I'm more fond of the rotting jellyfish style:

It just screams more alien. IMO, Rak'gol look like Chaos-warped centaurs or something, still very human in a universe where so many aliens aren't that...alien.

Also, what others said, all I could think of was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

I would prefer to have Hrud as 40k Skaven with a heavily Mechanised infantry style. the alternate design could be their Rat Ogre equivalents.

GW needs to add more to it's line of mini's for 40k. I'll be happy with anything.

There is nothing Skavenish about the Hrud. Sorry.

If you use the old image from the 3rd edition rulebook and the multitudes of conversions because of it, yes, there is.

But those are no longer Hrud. Those little hooded guys became 40k versions of Jawas.

The Hrud have been much more fleshed out (no pun intended) over the years, until we have them as those massive, slime-ball things that emit an entropic field and seem adept with warp-tech.

I dunno. I have now seen at least three "official" GW sanctioned pictures of the Hrud that depict them as something completely different.

It's hilarious that so much fuss can be made of such a background race when they can't even suitably grimdark the Squats, who were a legitimate, playable part of the game.

Search "nocturnal warrior of the hurd" and say that again. (its from a40k book)

Small figure, hooded and rat tail, known for unstable tech. sounds skaven to me.

As for the "merc book" idea, do remember that the BRB rules for formation mention things "without a faction".either a hint of things to come (factionless units), or just covering possible bases. but the rules are open for that option.
