Did GW cancel this event this year? I have not heard anything about it.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie. |

I don't think there will be any official statement. I suspect it just isn't going to be organised.
Is there still a Memphis HQ? If so they might host something, or there could be a Golden Demon, but I think it's unlikely that there will be a Games Day since the tickets would have been up for sale months ago.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Due to work, I can usually only ship any sales or trades out on Saturday morning. Please trade/purchase with this in mind. |

I am under the impression that Games Day (of any variety) has died in its current form for the foreseeable future.
However Golden Demon in the UK will go ahead but be like it was ages ago with regional heats before final at WHW.

Games Day has been left to die in the quiet of the distant night. Which not many people mind because all it was any more was a "pay money to come buy our stuff" event.

I gather that the last Games Day in England was an excellent example of 'Not with a bang, but a whimper'.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along. |

You didn't get to play games as the last games day UK. A games Day without games is like a ham and pineapple pizza without any ham or pineapple.

Or when Specialist Games just mysteriously started shrinking and then were gone.
Expecting GW to make announcements that highlight the removal of products, services or events? Nah, easier to just pretend it never happened.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.” |

As I've said several times on this forum, those big displays and demo games took staff to run. Fine when you had a fleet of stores with 3-4 staff, each with a fair amount of time to donate to the Games Day event, and even work on the day. Now that most of the shop staff are gone, and the remainder doing a many-armed Indian God impression when working in store, it's quite obvious that the Games Day in the format that we knew (and loved) was simply no longer feasible.
