I'm an avid reader of Cracked for its humor, but every now and then they come up some really interesting personal pieces about things and this is one of them.

http://www.cracked.com/article_21289_7-things-i-learned-as-accomplice-to-mass-murder_p1.html

For background; The article is about a woman who was a child at the time of the 2000 Murders of of several elderly Concord, California Residences (people here may remember two of the victims as the ex-Wife and daughter of Blues musician Elvin Bishop). Her mother was dating one of the three killers in the case, who were absolutely crazy.

A very interesting piece I think about how easy it can be for people to be sucked into terrible things.

Pretty good article. The guys at cracked do know how to write one.

That story really reminds me of my wife's mom. Sweet as all hell, but really insecure and borderline loony. Crystals, spirits, energies, all that gak.

If her mom's friends had been "bad" crazy instead of "good" crazy back in the early nineties, that could have been my wife writing this story.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

You might have heard of it as the Children of Thunder Killings.

ALSO. Since I'm here. The article about a Male Porn star is also very interesting, but children are on these boards so I didn't want to link to it as it talks about things rather vividly at times. You have been warned. Good read, but pulls no punches.

Great article. Thanks for posting that.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I enjoyed that.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
