I picked this up during the steamsale, and gifted my second copy to a buddy.

Anyone else played it? I really enjoyed the time I spent in the beta of it. It had some bugs, but it was incredibly fun. If you are a fan of games like Baldurs gate, you should enjoy it.

Overall, if anyone does pick it up, I strongly recommend one of the two created characters be a rogue. You pick up a Warrior and a Water Mage (who can heal and stuff) but there is no rogue in the first area, so you want one.

It is VERY non-linear. after being spoonfed so many rpgs, I'm actually having to think and figure out some stuff.

Played just a couple hours so far and I love it. I was really itching for a good RPG to play and was looking through my backlog for something then a day later this comes out. It really feels like a spiritual succesor to BG.

I love how open it seems to be, I'm sitting here wondering where I should be going, what should I be doing and realising that I'm not going to be told what to do so I just go exploring. I started enjoying myself more once I stopped worrying what quest I'm supposed to be on and started playing with an old school mindset.

I probably will start over and rethink what classes my 2 characters will be as they are both identical to the two companions you pick up in the first town which was boring. Anyone who is a fan of the old D&D CRPGs will probably enjoy this.

Also I dug up a grave that exploded, killed everyone and gave me a game over.

Double Fine Adventure, Wasteland 2, Nekro, Shadowrun Returns, Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, Planetary Annihilation, Project Eternity, Distance, Dreamfall Chapters, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Consortium, Divinity: Original Sin, Smart Guys, Raging Heroes - The Toughest Girls of the Galaxy, Armikrog, Massive Chalice, Satellite Reign, Cthulhu Wars, Warmachine: Tactics, Game Loading: Rise Of The Indies, Indie Statik, Awesomenauts: Starstorm, Cosmic Star Heroine, THE LONG DARK, The Mandate, Stasis, Hand of Fate, Upcycled Machined Dice, Legend of Grimrock: The Series, Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians, Cyberpunk Soundtracks, Darkest Dungeon, Starcrawlers

I have a KickStarter problem.

Cool, so is it like the old fallout games where its not very cut clear on instructions, so you end up roaming and doing things as they come along?

If so I might buy it.

Pretty much yeah. There are plenty of parts in the game, where you know you need to come back later, because the enemies are really strong.

There is one main quest in part 2 *The* main quest really, that should have a little more detail about it. But yeah, you pretty much have to figure out things for yourself.

For classes, I would recommend a Geo/Fire Wizard and a Rogue. You get a Knight and Hydro/Elec Wizard as companions early on.

The game is not easy, fair warning! It's pretty challenging so use that F5 save a lot!

EDIT: The game is quite long as well. I spent at least 20 hours in "Act 1" and There are 3 1/2 Acts in the game, from what I understand. So it'll be easy to spend 60+ hours on a single playthrough.

The nice thing is, since they are relasing the tools to make the game, the community will be able to make it's own modules and what not. which will be great!

I'm having fun with it, running a Witch/Rogue and the two characters you get in the first town. Seems to be pretty effective, so far. Two ranged and two melee, all of which can heal themselves.

Just defeated Bracchus Rex and got to silver glen. I think I have some bugged quests, as the journal dialogue indicates that certain quest characters should be somewhere and they're not there. Also, the fabulous Five folks disappeared...

It's not bugged, people are just scattred about. Sometimes they can be really obscure.

A good example, was after you defeated Arhus experiment, there is only one person to talk to complete the quest, and he is at the bottom of the legionaare dungeon.

As for the FF
Spoiler:
If you talk to the Mayor, they took the reward money and split

I totally want this game... gonna make this my pleasure purchase of the month next week. I love the Divinity games... there's something neato about them. I've got Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Divinity 2, Divinity Commander or whatever its called... great games...

But aside from it being a Divinity game, it sounds cool on its own merit. I like the perspective of play too. That's been more my thing rather than the over the shoulder or first person view of some of the RPGs out there (I think that's why I can't get into the newer Fallout games or the more recent Elder Scrolls titles).

I've heard conflicting stuff about this. The Giant Bomb review makes it sound like you don't get to create a PC, whereas the OP makes it sound like you do.

I've also heard that there's a fair amount of "wacky" humor to it, which is something I tire of rapidly in RPGs, and the dialogue/etc. aren't so great.

It's basically between this and Blackguards for my hitting-things-with-swords binge right now.

Not sure what Giant Bomb is talking about. If you are referring to their overview, It seems to be massively outdated or vaguely referencing the two NPCs you get at the beginning. Character creation is pretty close to Fallout, as it's a classless game at its core. If you want all your starting points in rogue stuff/talking/crafting/combat, you can do it. It's just good to specialize at the beginning, by picking one of the already made classes. Can even customize the looks of the two starting characters.

Right now for instance, I went rogue/witch. Caster and melee DPS. A few hours into the game, the Rogue is a hybrid warrior/Archer/Rogue and my Witch is a smooth talking, item crafting, Magic healer/DPS/Summoner using all the schools of magic. The two NPCs you pick up in the first town have remained static, by choice. One is a 2 handed axe wielder that hits like a truck and can take some hits and the Mage is DPS/Debuff/Healer. There are tons of options on how you want to create/build your character.

The humor isn't overbearing at all in my opinion. It's actually a fairly dark game at its core.

I suspect it was just an outdated overview that I was peering at, in that case.

Good to hear it's not basically The Bard's Tale in terms of how seriously it takes itself, though. How's the melee vs. magic divide? I tend to enjoy melee far more than magic, with paladin-style characters being about as far as I'm willing to hybridize.

Yeah the character creation is incredibly detailed.

But don't take my word for it...

It doesn't seem that intensive at all, but I'm playing it on a dedicated gaming computer, so I may not be the best judge. I haven't tried it on my own fairly ancient laptop, but I bet it would run, albeit not at the highest settings.

On other news, this game has made me realize just how used to modern RPG hand-holding I've become.

That it does. Part of the fun is figuring out all of the stuff on your. It can be very frustrating, but is quite rewarding at the end.

I think what amazed me was after the introductory dungeon, followed by the trip to the town, I spent a good few hours not fighting anything.

Anything. And I enjoyed it all. Been a -long- time since I've had that!

And the fighting itself is genuinely fun. The interaction of spells and the environment makes me squeal with glee when the enemy in the poison cloud is now suddenly in the middle of an explosion.

The combat is awesome, the scope of the game is incredible, the RPG mechanics in general are all very good.

And it's all totally undermined by the goofy humor and bad writing, which I was worried about. The sneaking animation, the "sourceror with a u" nonsense, the 'funny' NPCs and quests (such as the seashell quest giver who introduces himself with, "Call me Ishmashell," nyuck nyuck).

I never end up enjoying CRPGs that break the fourth wall with so much determination.

I would say the more serious examples far outweigh the goofy ones.

Like the Ghost that turned off the lighthouse light because he was jealous of his love, and killed everyone on the ship. Or the ghost that was toruting and and doing other unspeakable hedonictisc things to women.

Bloodstones themselves are also pretty sinister.

Ya, It definitely gets darker the deeper you get into it.

Sorry if I mislead ya earlier Seaward, when I said the humor wasn't overbearing. Guess we have different tolerances for corny humor.
