Hi All,

New Necron player after playing fantasy for a few years. Wife has Orks and will most likely be playing killa kans, deff dread, trucks and boyz. So far i have the following models for a 750 points list... is there anything i should consider against Orks / change in the list? (thinking 3 x AV13 models to deal with & some good CC models?)

1 x Annihilation Barge

3 x Wraiths (3x WC)

1 x Night Scythe
8 x Warriors

1 x Ghost Ark
1 x Overlord (WS)
8 x Warriors

Thinking of adding another GA & AB over the coming weeks to expand the army with a few more warriors. Only other units im considering is deathmarks but unsure, any advise on army expansion would be much appreciated

Many Thanks,
Bionic

Hi Bionic,

Welcome to the metallic dead!

Some things about Crons that you probably will find out, but hopefully this gives you a head start.

-Close combat is not our friend. I2 is not a good thing.
-Tesla is awesome, being able to multiply up hits is excellent.
-Anni Barges are great.
-Overlords should not leave home without Mindshacke Scarabs, because it's easier when your opponent beats himself/herself to death. Also, a warscythe and sempiternal weave.
-Crypteks bring brilliant abilities, get some.
-Put your overlord on a CCB and watch him go!

Now, to specifics.

Against mech orks, gauss is your friend. Against orks in general, tesla is your friend. 750 points is a bit squeezy, but can be done. I'd recommend 2 AB as a base, for only 180 points they are a steal.

For 750 points I'd do something like:

HQ
Overlord (Staff of Light, Sempiternal Weave, Mindshackle Scarabs)
Royal Court
2 x Harbringer of Despair (one for each warrior squad)

Troops
5x Warrior, Ghost Ark
5x Warrior, Ghost Ark

HS
Anni Barge
Anni Barge

Ghost arks are the business, and importantly you can shoot the arrays at different units. Don't forget they have Objective Secured, so you can use a GA with an embarked unit to control 2 objectives if they are close enough together. (GA does one, unit does another).

DespairTeks have an AP1 flamer that works against leadership...handy for Orks. (one day, try a despairtek with deathmarks....you'll like it!)

And Anni barges - well they are just awesome, and don't forget the Arc (I always do!).

oh, and in 40k you can assault backwards, so keep the GA out of assaulting range!

Out of my Mind

Welcome to the Crons,

Going to offer some different advice, that differs to Markcron.

* You're short on bodies. More Warriors and/or a unit of Immortals. I'd look into the Immortals before Deathmarks. Tesla or Gauss will work just fine. W/O spoiling it though, the Tesla are still pretty effective against Ork Vehicles, since most of them are AV10-11. You've got a decent amount of Gauss to deal with 1-2 Vehicles higher than that.

* Agree with Mark, Semp Weave and Warscythe. You could switch out the Semp Weave with the Phase shifter if you like, but if you're going to take both, just take Zahndrekh. MSS are great, and you could put them on your Overlord. Don't expect them to do to much since they took a slight nerf in this edition, and probably won't save you on the turn you get charged with those small units.

* I wouldn't touch the CCB Overlord till you get to around the 1.5k mark. They're mediocre, but at lower point games, they cost too much for what you're going to get out of them.

* Get 2 Crypteks (one for each of the Warrior squads) and play with the different combinations to find out what you like. They really add variety to otherwise static units.

* Whip Coils on the Wraiths aren't what they appear to be. Save the points for now since you're on a budget. You'll find it's only recommended that you take 1 for every 2-3 Wraiths. Usually only do it if you're going to run a DLord, which you're not.

With what you have, I'd recommend getting a Battleforce. You'll get Warriors, a 2nd GA, and the first 1/2 of your Immortals. Then when you play, you can decide to get the 2nd Anni Barge, or finish out the Immortals. I'd recommend the Immortals, but that's preference.
