Hey guys, I live in Good ol' Canada so when I went looking for some basic scenery to allow Line of sight blocks and cover saves, it wasn't to my surprise that everything is priced insane...ish. The games workshop scenery is beautiful, but for 40-120+$50~ shipping for 1-2 cover areas it seems very, very steep. I went on Ebay and its quite a bit cheaper.... until the awesome 60-80$ shipping fees get calculated.
Im playing eldar/Tau so i'm preferably looking for something sci-fi, but really anything will work. We (me and my 3 friends I got into warhammer) all love this game, but it's REALLY a mood killer when you're using tissue boxes and books as cover.

If anyone could link me to a site or suggest some kits that would be great.

Have you seen papercraft terrain? I bought quite a few Dave Graffam ones. They are pretty all right and fun to build.

And alternative is scratch building. But I find that I don't really have artistic talent to make realistic looking terrain. If your group has someone like that, it's possible to supplement the paper craft with large terrain like plateaus etc.

Not high tech, but I find a lot of ruins and such can be found for decent prices at pet shops in the fishtank terrain section.

The fish-tank terrain is best. Cheap and very well detailed. I got a lot personally from Amazon.

Plastic fish tank plants (brightly coloured) and based can look great as a jungle piece.

The Imperial Sector boxset is worth picking up from a indie seller (as they usually discount GW products 10-20%).

This is what I'm building next:
Keep various cans of pop/beer
Clean
Spray black
Masking tape stripes at an angle
Spray yellow
Remove tape
Glue together with bits of tube, maybe bullet holes, broken ladder, lolly pop stick fencing, etc

Voila - LOS blocking power plant/station.

I also use the Duke Nukem statue from the collector's edition of Forever. Knew it'd come in handy.

Its better just to make your own, cheaper and you can make whatever you want. Lots of Tutorials on Youtube. There is some companies that make CNC cut MDF terrain.

Hi.
Mantic Games have released this sci fi buildings kit , this may be useful to you?

http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/deadzone/scenery/product/deadzone-scenery-upgrade-pack.html

You can use the panels to make all sorts of buildings.(And you do not have to glue them , they have connectors, so they strip down to flat pack if you prefer.)

At AC Moore or Michaels (or whatever your local craft store is called) you can buy plastic plants, cut them up a little bit, and hot glue them to bases for cheap...

Shipping costs still would kill me for such little amounts, like a 25$ pipe with 20$ shipping.
What I decided to do was build my own with LEGO! Doesn't look the best, but it will work

Grab some cardboard, plasticard, PVA glue, sand and any old household junk and get to work making your own. It's fairly easy, very cheap and rather fun too! Check the P&M forum for some really nice terrain blogs and ideas.

The cheapest and best scenery (for people that cannot make it themselves) is probably aquarium-stuff.

Just do a Google on aquarium + warhammer + scenery

Example: http://www.thatpetplace.com/skull-mountain-ornaments
That's only 17 dollar for the gigantic version, GW would ask double or triple for something like that.

Just triple? You are thinking small

Think limited edition finecast terrain which is web esclusive and numbered, yeah numbered terrain. Thats 100 sterlings worth right there.

OT i echo everybody else about making your own terrain. Burying regular household items like deodorant cannisters or the container for the sunglasses in to foamboard and painting it will give you easy silo terrain.

Ordering in terrain works as well, i used to find many scratch built terrain on ebay for reasonable prices. They are not the best but they are one of a kind and usually pre painted.

I think the battlefield in a box things are not that bad, I'm contemplating on buying all their sets. Also the ruined gothic city thing from pegasus hobbies. It's nice and if you put a little effort on it, it can look amazing.

Second the pegasus gothic stuff.

I've done at least 4 buildings with that stuff (it comes in intact versions as well as ruins - and the ruins/intact pieces work together fine).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

A lot can be done with a sheet of foamcore and a knife. Endless ruined walls to fill a battlefield for starters.

If you're looking to buy I second or third Pegasus. Cheap, versitile, easy to assemble.

1/48 scale die cast cars are another possiblity, mash them up a bit and add them as wrecks.

There are lots of sites like this:
http://studiolevel.com.pl/shop/en/content/category/1-home

For trees I recommend:
http://www.sceneryexpress.com/7-8-LARGE-ECONOMY-FIR-TREES_10-TREES/productinfo/NH26322/

All you have to do is buy some washers for the trees and base them. One set is enough for a table and they are a good size, not too small like most 28mm wargaming trees you see. I am planning on making my own table now, all you need are some mdf boards, a hot wire cutter and some foam.

For your Eldar/Tau, perhaps buildings like these would suit. They are from Plasticraft Games in their Infinity section. The links are from the company site which I think is in Spain. You might be able to find a distributor on this side of the Atlantic to keep shipping costs down.

Micro Arts Studio has different types of alien defense lines. One is called the "Tau Ceti" defense line, the other "Wraithstone" defense line. I'm interested in the Cyber Fortification myself.

More Tau Ceti structures in a different section of the Micro Arts Studio website.

If there is a crafts store or florists near you, see if they have silk or fabric foliage. It is an inexpensive way to get things like ferns and other jungle-like greenery. You can then base it yourself to fit your own needs. Other posters have already linked sites like Terragenesis if you need inspiration.

Also, if you do start building your own, get into the habit of saving interestingly shaped containers and packaging. For example, I've been saving large plastic vitamin jars for a refinery. Also visiting thrift stores or dollar stores can turn up interesting (and cheap) stuff that can be turned into terrain with some work.
