Hello and good morning.
Quick question when I was playing a game I tried to use the farsight blade thing "forget the name" melee weapon to attack a fire prism. He said you can't assault a flyer in hover mode "or something similar" Then he said all his vechicles are in hover mode so my kroot are usless vs them.
I smell shenanigans

Skimmers are all too assaultable.
If it's a skimmer, or a flyer in hover mode, it's assaultable.
Zooming flyers are not.
Fire prisms, wave serpents and Falcons are not flyers, they are skimmers.
Eldar are an uber enough codex without trying to cheat.

Ok I kinda figured something was wrong, he had a tank army and messed up his placement and let my 2 units of krootox get behind and attack the rear, followed by farsight charge the flank then this rule came up. I was looking through the rulebook but couldn't find any exact rule and he said it was faqed on GW site. Not going to get in a fist fight over a game but it was weird timing lol.

That would be another tipoff for future reference.
GW doesn't host their FAQ's on their site anymore
The rules for skimmers, hovering flyers and flyers are in the vehicles section of the rules.

I think you need to assault him while screaming "Go into hover mode, expletive of choice!"

I am aware the question has been answered, but I'd like to add something: even if it was FAQd, your opponent should have said FAQ, or it doesn't stand AFAIK. Otherwise "Oh, my Chapter Master now has 20,000 wounds, is T10 and has 400 attacks, 500 on the charge. No... it isn't in the book because they FAQd it, but I can't show you because i don't have it on me" kind of things happen.
