Hi all I'm currently, building an imperial fist army and it's a shooty based one of course and was wondering what the best weapon layout is.

Magnets are the best layout.

The famous pattern right now is the Grav Cannon + Hurricane Bolter. The bolters can chew through mobs while the Grav Cannons can threaten heavy infantry, monstrous creatures, and even vehicles. This patter is usually in 4 man squads with a big, bad guy leading them, such as Lysander, to provide a wound battery, invulnerable save, and a melee deterrent since their threat range is 12"~24".

3 main reasons i run Sentinels of Terra allied detachment is to fit x4 grav cents and a TFC into the detachment slots, but with the 4 cents i equip 3-4 with missiles since they have tank hunters from their siege master trait. The grav weaps have reroll to wound/pen from the amps and now your secondary weapons (missiles) will reroll to wound/pen too. kind of pricey, but it definitely ensures me the kill.

As a fellow Fists player (SoT for me), I am having the same issue making the decision putting together a Centurion Unit, so I am magnetizing as well. I'm not sure why there would be four models in the unit, but I am using the three that come in the box. Based on the chapter tactics of Fists and SoT, the only weapons that get chapter tactics bonuses are the Las Cannons (Tank Hunters), and Missle Launcher (Tank Hunters). None of the bolter weapons (heavy; hurricane) benefit from the Bolter Drill or Close Range Bolter Drill as they are already twin-linked, and the Siege Drills and TL Meltaguns don't get Tank Hunters, as that chapter tactic only applies to Devastator Centurionas, not Assault Centurions. The decision is then, do you want close range (Grav/Hurricane) or long range (Las/Missle). Since I have one Land Raider Crusader, I will either run them with Grav/Hurricane in the LR, or stick Lysander/Assault Terms in the LR, and run the Centurions in the backfield with Las/Missle.

I added an Imperial Fist detachment to my Grey Knight list and since I have trouble with armor and I also wanted to take advantage of the Imperial Fist Chapter Tactic Tank Hunter so I out-fitted them with Lascannons and Missile Launchers and they do quite well. They also have double the range of grav and the hurricane bolters.

Honestly, when I make my full army, I am going to be running both with the Grav cannons/Hurricane Bolters and the Lascannons/ Missile Launchers with eventually taking Sentinels of Terra so I can run Thunderfire Cannons as well.

To me the choice comes down to what do you need in your army. Grav is great for anti-heavy armored infantry but sucks against low or unarmored infantry and vehicles. Las is great for anti-vehicle and taking out infantry but you don't get as many shots as you do with grav. Las is also double the range so they can just sit in the back.

Thank you for your help! I'm going for a shooty based army, I currently have 4 unit's of tac marines, 2 dev squads, 2 sternguard units, 2 cent units, lysander, 2 boxes of combat termies.

Imperial fists are truly devestating with the right army.

Might i suggest looking into purchasing or building an Imperial bastion as well.

With the change to the force org chart, you can take 2 units of standard devestator marines inside the bastion with an ammo dump upgrade to make them reroll 1's to hit.

You can then take 2 3-4 man strong cent dev squads with grav cannons and bolters inside land raider redeemer transports.

Back them up with 2 scout squads for troops and some tanky characters attatched to make for some amazing firepower and fairly durable army units.

Pretty sure you can only put 1 unit into a building at once.

I play my sentinels as drop pod. Makes a fun and devastating army. I magnetized the centurions as well. I like the grav guns (most comp) but something abuot 6 moving heavy weapons a turn is fun toO!

That was what I was wanting to do with my Imperial Fists as well, a Drop Pod army with Centurion support.

I run 3 in support of Pedros Sternguard. I run 2x grac/hurricane bolter and sarge with omniscope, tllc/ml. Maximizes benefits from our CT and is amazing against everything but light infantry swarms.

That is one reason why I really like the missile launcher, switch to frak missiles and it takes care of light armored swarms. Still, nothing beats Grav against heavily armored infantry.

To me they were mild to put together but this is coming from the perspective of having to put two handed melee weapons on GKSS and GK Terminators to the point where I say screw it and try to give them mostly one handed weapons but I feel your pain. I tried to magnetize mine but kind of failed and just went with the Lascannons and Missile Launchers.

In this setup, you basically don't need Centurii.

I'd go for some fast moving units like Bikes and one or two Stormtalons.

Drop down to just a squad of 3 Centurions and it will compensate. I know you would like 4 for a bit more fire power but the 3 should be enough to do the job that way you have more than enough points to have the TL Lascannons and ML on every single Centurion.

A Dev Squad can most certainly work, just be sure to protect them as best as possible. Being just regular marines, they will be targeted a lot.

Depends on what you want them to do. Once you define the role you want them to play in your army, the load out should become obvious.

I chose them to replace a Devastator Squad. My load out:

Sgt- Grav Amp and Hurricane Bolters
2x TL Lascannons, Missile Launchers

Sgt has split fire and shoots at heavy infantry (Hurrican Bolters are just for more dice to throw and cheaper then ML).

The other two shoot at armor out to 48".

I could see a Sgt w/ TL Lascannon and ML, with the other two being Gravcannon+Amps w/ Hurricane Bolters though. Why the Hurricane Bolters and not a ML? Numbers! ML Frag can deviate, and has pretty crappy S and AP vs. MEQ, or one krack missile... but you have the Gravcannons so why pay the extra points for a not-quite guaranteed extra dead MEQ? Hurricane Bolters just throws more shots at them and can be pretty useful against hordes.

I'm still on the fence though about which is better- a full up Devastator squad with 4 Lascannons or 4 ML's, or three Cents. Or a Thunderfire Cannon. Or heck, even a Land Raider. Stupid Heavy Support!
