So which do you prefer, and why? (having read through both codices I'm guessing)
Listen to me complain!
Spoiler:
]Not only is there a total of 14 PAGES filled with 'Eavy Metal models that I could see on the website, but they use GW models, as character portraits! Were they just trying to fill pages?
Is GW running hard for cash? Are they getting lazy? Not just that, but all the fluff for the models has seemingly been halved. In the previous codex, there were an entire two pages dedicated towards the mek and the shokkattack gun and the wierdboy and his powers (also the rules were there too, so i didn't have to flip between a hundred pages).
I do enjoy the first half of the book, and there is some interesting fluff, and the only flaw i can spot is that they re-used some art work (thought i wouldnt notice GW?)
And the removal of the looted waggon? I cant see a reason for that.

Do you mean the rules of the codex or the layout of it? The looted wagon is in WD, so you can still use it but it is annoying that its not in the codex. I prefer the layout of the old ones with the artwork instead of pictures and the army list at the end. I like datasheets, but I kind of wish they used artwork instead of pictures.
Rules wise im not sure yet, but the new codex is not nearly as bad as many people think it is.
I'm happy to have some new tactics to consider for the first time since I started playing in 2010. So much is cheaper now, I like the fact that Waaagh! works like it used to again, and the shenanigans with detachments and formations are going to result in some diverse options. I'm so not a fan of new Mob Rule, but I haven't had a chance to see how it works in game yet (and I've heard some battle reports that make me think it's not as terrible as it looks).
The new one has a few flaws, but it's a lot better than the old one.
I agree on the layout though, badly cropped pictures of models is somewhat killing the mood of the codex. Luckily the fluff part is artwork only.
7 Ork facts people always get wrong: Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other. A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot. Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests. Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books. Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor. Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers. Orks do not have the power of believe.
Dakka is the ork word for shooting, but the ork concept of shooting is saturation fire. Just as there is no such thing as a "miss" in a target-rich environment, there is no such thing as a "dodge" in a bullet rich one
You know which codex I want? The 2nd Ed one. Yeah, the one that a chance for the Ork army to wipe itself out through bad rolls on random tables. I miss that book.
Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

No thanks. Pulsa Rockets...
"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

My problem with the new on is it's blandness. Toss in some clan rules and a couple of flavor units (like madboys, rockers, or feral orks) and I'd like 7th way better.
I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.
Seemed a bit more flexible to me, and the loss of the all-biker army (outside of unbound) annoyed me, especially since Wazdakka was my fave IC ...
That said the new one doesn't seem too bad, but will have to playtest it heavily to be sure on that
The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

how can you use a unit if its not in the codex..I mean is White dwarf issues FAQ's and secondary codexs now?

Well the sanctus reach book is speed freeks so Im guessing you'll see the bike formations. Bringing the ork codex to $180 now to get the full content.
Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Ah, how I miss the utter insanity of old Orks...
Trukks where you could only transport what you could physically fit on the model, and there were rules for models taking damage if they fell off.
Choppas that reduced armor saves to a 4+.
And of course, Goff Rockers: Orks with guitars.

While it was good for a laugh, it usually sucked to play them (instead of play against them). Also, Orks in RT and 2nd Edition played nothing like the fluff, as they were largely a shooty army that was pretty horribad in hand to hand and not very mobile outside of the warbikes.
Trukks didn't exist in the wild and wooly days of RT and 2nd edition, neither did Choppas. Those are both 3rd edition (which was my favorite just because Orks became a real threat) and 3rd edition sucked all of the zaniness out of them (even the cool stuff like the Shokk Attack Gun). I think this codex is a nice balance of some of the old throwback stuff from 2nd edition while still keeping them as a mobile HtH army that is a valid threat to be taken seriously (from a fluff perspective).

I've been finding upsides and downsides with the codex. I like the models being used as portraits. Mainly because I disliked the art from the previous codex and like that I can see the models. Before these pics were left in the middle gallery.
I like how each of the clans got a fluff story and a bit more detail. Though I miss the section where they showed how to paint different clans and how they can be kitbashes to make them more fluffy. Like taking biker bits and using them for Deathskulls.
On a tactical front I'm. A bit thrown off with making lists right now because all I want to do is take 3 painboys in large boy squads. not 100% tactical for every occasion but I need to figure out more builds.
