A pretty straight forward question, I think. What army or armies do you own right now? This can range from armies that you are currently playing, armies that you have shelved away or armies that you're currently in the process of creating. If you would like, go ahead and share why you have collected the army or armies that you have collected.

For me, the only army I own are the WoC mainly for how awesome they looked to me. I couldn't really get into their appearance in their 40K counterpart but in WHFB the WoC just blew me away with how their armor was designed.

High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen & Warriors of Chaos.

High Elves were the first army I collected, as an 11 year old back in about '98 during mid-5th addition. Have always loved their background, especially that of Aenerion and the Tyrion/Teclis story.

I made a brief foray into Dark Elves towards the end of 6th addition before going on a bit of a hiatus from the hobby for a few years. Started adding to my collection again about a year prior to their newest book came out. Really love their model range. I guess their style is similar to the High Elves, long robes, high helms and elegant weaponry but with a wicked twist.

Around mid 7th addition I decided to get back into the hobby. Decided a new army was in order and settled on Lizardmen. They'd recently gotten their 7th addition book, had an updated model range and had always interested me due to one of my childhood friends playing them when we first started. Of the 4 armies I have I think they look the best on the table as they are definitely the most colourful.

About November last year I started on Warriors of Chaos. Id say so far I'm about 1000pts into a planned ~2400pt collection. Its shaping as a bit of a Monster mash, planning to use Ogres, Dragon Ogres, a Chimera, Skullcrushers and a Chaos Lord on a Manticore. Haven't really had an opportunity to play with these guys much yet. But I'm looking forward to being able to play an army that can take some punishment.

I also have the Skaven from the Island of Blood set. I was set to start them, bought the army book and made a few lists... Then I realised how many rats Id have to paint. That's about the time I started Warriors of Chaos instead. They filled the role of balancing my Evil:Good quota and provided some great modelling opportunities. I'd say my next challenge will be a horde army. Possibly Skaven or maybe Vampire Counts who I have always been interested in.

I've also dabbled in a few 40k armies with small (~1000pts) collections. My group of friends gravitated towards it for a while. Personally it never interested me as much as Fantasy. I won't go into detail as that would be blashemous in these forums

I have:
Beastmen
Daemons
Dwarves
High Elves
Lizardmen
Orcs and Goblins
Skaven
The Empire
Tomb Kings
Vampire Counts

Basically I used to buy units I liked to model / paint, then a small force of 1500 pts would follow, which may get added to to be taken to a tournament.

Currently I mostly take to the field Orc and Goblins, Empire or Tomb Kings, but i try and get some table time each change of ruleset; main and army book.
My wife does want me to down size, but I can't let go.

My main army right now is unfortunately Tzeentch Daemons who got a bit too much of a nerf bat beating.
Added to a local meta that's teeming with Elves of all flavours, (though HE's have slightly more popularity), and it's a bad time to be a Daemon enthusiast!

I also have Lahmian themed VC's, and a stack of stuff for a small Beastmen army as well as a decent sized Skaven force.

Thanks to 40k however, I'm branching out the Daemons with adding some Slaaneshii & Khornate options due to the new summoning rules. While I hate being force to throw my theme out the window, there's just no way mono Tzeentch is playable under the current rules with all those pointy-ears everywhere.

WoC, DoC, Dark Elves, and The Empire. High Elves I have 2 sets of the island of blood and have to buy a couple of more things to get to 2500 pts with them. I won't go beyond that with them.

Empire: 10,000+
Chaos Legions: DoC- 10,000+; WoC- 7,500+; Beastmen- 2,500+; Chaos Dwarves- 3,500+
Unaligned: Ogres- 2,500; Tomb Kings- 3,000

When I first started WHF 6 years ago, I played around with a bunch of armies. I started with TK, but hated the dependence on magic (which was very confusing for me starting out). Then I moved on to VC and loved the background. But I got bored painting skeletons pretty quickly, and so I moved to O&G.

After leaving the hobby for about 4 years, I have come back to WHF. I revamped my brother's old DE army, and I am currently working on a Bret force. I love the background for Brets, and the army will provide a lot of variety in painting and modeling. I'm hoping that I can find some local players that I can relearn the hobby with.

WoC fully painted at 2500, a bunch of TK unpainted at... something... I dunno, it's a lot of random stuff. And starting on WE. My coworkers and I play with paper cutout proxies for new stuff.

I like the variety of those three. WoC is great close combat, TK is great for heavy magic, WE is great for heavy ranged. Gives me an outlet for whatever itch I happen to have.

Daemons (tzeentch)
Empire.

Skaven were first. I have loved them since I first saw them in the early 90's. Being a fan of The Secret of Nihm as a kid fed the fire. They will always be #1 for me and I am at 160 clanrats but way behind painting because I have warhammer ADD.
I started Warriors of Chaos because they were pretty much the polar opposite of Skaven. Low numbers, high quality everything.
Daemons grew from the idea of initially adding them to the Warriors as allies, Now I have a full army of them.
Empire I always liked and got a great deal on one of GW holiday army boxes so there it was.
I play both Fantasy and 40k and I have to admit I have the most fun with Fantasy.

To be honest, I thought WoC and Lizardmen would be higher then where they are now. Skaven especially surprised me with how many people play them.

I used to have Vampire Counts, Demons, Warriors, Beastmen, High, Dark, Wood elves and Ogres. All at 2000+ points.

Now I have VC and demons. The rest all got ebayed off for two reasons:

1 - when the hardback books came out and I sussed it was gonna be £22.50 to update each codex. No thanks.

2 - 8th edition. Played it a fair bit for the first year or so, but slowly stopped enjoying it and decided to go elsewhere.

The profits funded a whole variety of different games.

I am not independently wealthy, for years I had friends that worked for GW. They used to get stuff for 60% off boxes and 4 cents an ounce on loose metal. I could give them a $20 and get 100 imperial guard, oh the good old days. I also had a crazy idea for years that i was going to collect every dwarf model GW had ever produced. I gave up when i hit 20 core units. Except for the rare ebay purchas, I don't buy anything new. My Ogres are about the only thing I have that are current models. I am happy with that as I prefer METAL for most things, though 5th ed plastic empire halberdiers rock . It is great to see peoples faces when I move 50 man blocks of metal around the table.

Oh those, chaos dwarfs, no forge world here, 5th ed big hats all the way

I have 3500 points of Skaven. I have 3 armies for 40k which I started before fantasy (even tho I played fantasy before I chose to start my own army of either game).
I only wanted 1 fantasy army to start because I made the mistake of collecting to many armies and not finishing them in 40k.
At 3500 points I feel they areat a good level of models since I play most games at 2000 points but I want 5000 to be my goal.

I have the vampire counts army book as well but I don't really want to start them until I paint my 250+ model skaven army haha beastmen have also been interesting to me but I don't want to buy their book until they get a new one since I won't start a new army for a while.
