The Frozen North

Hey all, I am planning a longer term themed army project using the new orks codex and I am torn. The core of the army will be squads of grots in stolen great coats and pickelhaube helmets with mek guns supporting. The HQ will most likely be a warboss in mega armor with mega armor nobs escorting. It is the fast attack slot that has me a bit torn. On one hand I would like to model tracked buggies as grot tanks and have a whole wall of little tanks rolling around (and blowing up with little more than a light breeze). On the other I could also do squadrons of Deffkoptas with big bomms and maybe buzz saws modeled as little ramshackle grot piloted biplanes escorting a Blitza bommer modeled loosely around a Gotha biplane bomber, again crewed by grots.

One determining factor could be the inclusion of trenches and fortifications (ork versions of the wall of martyrs from Stronghold Assault), but the army could go either way with tanks or airplanes. Any thoughts and comments on this?

I've seen both done well, so its more what you prefer and if you have any thoughts on what you might feel more comfortable in creating.

I would be equally comfortable making either as I make masters for a metal casting company. Scratch building is part of what I do for a living. I guess I am just torn as each has its own charm and character and I want to balance that with what may actually be useful on the board.

Keep in mind with the current Meta, you don't have to choose for one slot. You can do both if you want.

True, but old habits die hard and I still tend towards bound armies.

From the sounds of it, I'd love any extra deff koptas you manahed to whip up from that idea.

That said, I'd honestly have to say tanks from a purely viable sense. Whilst both koptas and buggies are decent at present, I just feel like buggies are a bit better.

While you may only be able to use one set at a time there is nothing stopping you from doing both and changing your army from time to time

Well I suppose I will start with tanks and toy around with some planes later. I have a pretty clear idea for the tanks. There will be some uniformity between the tanks as I am thinking story wise they took over an old abandoned tractor factory.
