I am wondering if we should try to copy any useful threads from the official boards over here.

Its not the end of the world or anything, but I barely posted on the official boards and I am not much in the mood to monitor 2 new boards for information.

It shouldn't be a huge surprise. Their forums have been running in safe mode for the past two months and they haven't gotten it fixed.

I would find it slightly humorous if this move was a result of the broke forums and them just saying "F it let the community sites handle the forums"

The official forums... all I wanted is to have front page summary of news and rumours. Navigating through sheer spam of GIFS and other nonsense is rather taxing.

Handing the moderation to certain fans of theirs, yikes.

I think this is a move for the better, you must remember that they are still funding the costs for the new forums and supposedly they will still have their people read the forum posts and keep tabs on them. If anything this will mean a better run, more adaptive forum that could possibly have better moderation (I hope so). That sounds like good news to me.

It's kind of sad. Maybe some will come to Dakka?

For what it's worth, it's still only one board to monitor, the Spanish site takes the place of the Spanish forum which was separate anyway.

CB have a long way to go before they could be compared to GW.

More a mercy killing of that forum than an execution, though.

Why does ANY game need an "official" forum, anyway? Several CB people are on DS. Bostria, Palanka - and they will still provide info via social media (twitter and FB) too.

And not that I mind any of this, I like both companies. Just pointing out the quite obvious similarities.

I am shocked and dismayed at the 'death' of the "Official" Infinity Forum.

I'm sure they have there reasons, but I think this is a bad time for CB to be distancing themselves from their target auidience in this way.

Still, I guess this means that the CB Crew is now 'out and about', and it looks as if Dakka Dakka has been assigned Koni, so that's good!

And if it means more "Official" forum users migrating over here, that would be good too - welcome to any and all!

And yes, I would attempt to 'port over' any and all 'important' posts because as of October (give or take) it is all going to go the tears in rain route!

We might be able to talk PsycoticStorm or Koni into coping some for us as well since they are official forum Mods, but they may be busy moving the stuff to the new official forums.

I stopped using the official forums as they weren't particularly well maintained, and there were some real 'characters' there that made things more difficult.

Data Sphere is a lot more relaxed, and still pretty good place to discuss rules and for modelling.

That being said I question the wisdom of shutting down the official forum, and I hope that CB have the sense to include a prominent link on their website (as they have done with the Army Builder) to Data Sphere. If they do this, I think the transition should hopefully be quite smooth, and I'm sure after a few months people won't notice.

One or two similarities, but that's it, and I think you're being deliberately scurrilous/facetious with that comment.

CB have a long way to go before they are even remotely considered as the same kind of company as GW. Once they start launching legal actions against fan sites, raising prices every year, switch to an inferior material while claiming it is an improvement and shutting off all communications with their customer base (amongst a dozen other actions, that I have excluded for the sake of brevity) then you may have something..

I did some of the Tactica threads a while back (although they have likely been updated since then) but just ran out of time to do any forum-ing other than the occasional browse im afraid. I think i ended up porting from 5-6 different authors in the end and not a single one had a problem with me re-posting stuff for the Dakka community, just send them a PM and ask...

Ill see if i can do any tomorrow or over the weekend but im still being run into the ground so no high hopes...

CB have a history of doing limited edition models, though.

Doing a pre order bonus model with Operation Ice Storm is pretty run of the mill for CB these days.

Point still stands though. CB love their limited edition minis. This is not a 'new thing' that makes them comparable to what GW do with their starters. They've been doing it for a couple of years now.

As far as I'm aware it's going to be linked on the front page, replacing the existing forum link. Still in two minds about it. :(

Few of the main forum regulars have made their way over, and the first comment I read when I looked today was about 'butthurt' and someone being kerb-stomped ..

Also, just been reading through some of the comments going on between the main admin of Datasphere, and a couple of the 3rd party producers who wanted to work through Datasphere. To put it mildly, the guy doesn't come accross very well and I think now that basically Antenociti (and possibly Warsenal) have told him to where to stick the website... Doesn't look like they are going to have any involvement with them in the future.

The hilarious part is that the same admin then responded to the declaration that Antenociti wouldn't have anything to do with the site from that point onwards, by saying that he had an official warning point, and if he continued would face a forum ban.. ..

There is also a bit of back and forth about the nature of 'official' and 'supported', and what Datasphere is meant to represent.

Overall, it's unbelievable how much the atmosphere in (some parts at least) of the forum has changed within the space of a few days! I'm already hoping that someone else will pick up the baton and start another non-official forum.. :( (Surely there is room for more than one?)

Definitely, think CB could have handled this with a bit more grace, and the saying of 'power corrupts' certainly looks like it could have had some bearing on what has taken place at Datasphere..

Paychecks for the staff and server maintenance are kind of important. I'm familiar with that. I take it that CB's financial sponsorship wasn't enough to be considered to cover additional partnerships, and as ToadChild mentioned already it was never discussed between DS and CB.
