So I know that there is a GT in October in Waco Texas, the Golden Throne, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding out more details about it. Does anyone have a link to a website or FB page where I can find out a little more about this event?

It was my understanding that Rob Pace is 100% out of the tournament organization game now. He sold the California Golden Throne to Frontline Gaming, but I haven't heard anything about Texas. Unless somebody else picks it up though, I would assume that it is dead.

This ticket includes a 3-day pass as well as entry into the Warhammer 40K Open event. This is a *TWO* Day Event. There will also be some separate Kill Team games played on Friday. Entry fee covers the two day event and your WaCon badge. Saturday 9am – 9:45am Check In Saturday 10am – 1pm Round 1 Saturday 1:30pm – 4:30pm Round 2 Saturday 5:00pm – 8:00pm Round 3 Sunday 9am – 9:45am Check In Sunday 10am – 1pm Round 4 Sunday 1:30pm – 4:30pm Round 5 Sunday 5:00pm Awards Ceremony Sportsmanship Sportsmanlike conduct needs no explanation. You should treat all of your peers with respect, especially in a tournament environment where tensions can run high. We all need to remember that this game (and this tournament!) is intended to be fun. Unsportsmanlike conduct will be severely penalized, and can include disqualification from the event without prizes or refunds. Section Two: Event Rules & Format Building an Army All players must submit an army list to the tournament organizer at the start of the event. All armies must meet the following requirements: Armies may consist of up to 2000pts. Combined Arms Detachments and Unbound Armies will both be allowed. Forge World rules are allowed only for 40k approved models. Models must be WYSIWYG (‘what you see is what you get’), with appropriate weapons and wargear displayed in a manner that’s easy for your opponent to understand. All models must be painted to a three-color minimum. Prizes will not be awarded to players who field unpainted models. Converted models must be mounted on an appropriate base, must be of a similar size to the official model, and must visibly represent all wargear (WYSIWYG). Legal Rules • 7th edition Base Rule Book • Escalation • Stronghold Assault Legal Codexes • Codex: Adepta Sororitas • Codex: Astra Militarum • Codex: Blood Angels • Codex: Chaos Daemons • Codex: Chaos Space Marines • Codex: Dark Angels • Codex: Dark Eldar • Codex: Eldar • Codex: Grey Knights • Codex: Imperial Knights • Codex: Inquisition • Codex: Legion of the Damned • Codex: Militarum Tempestus • Codex: Necrons • Codex: Orks • Codex: Space Marines • Codex: Space Wolves • Codex: Tau • Codex: Tyranids Additional Rules Sources • Codex Chaos Space Marines Supplement: Black Legion • Codex Chaos Space Marines Supplement: Crimson Slaughter • Codex Eldar Supplement: Iyanden • Codex: Orks Supplement: Waaagh! Ghazghkull • Codex Space Marines Supplement: Clan Raukaan • Codex Space Marines Supplement: Sentinels of Terra • Codex Tau Supplement: Farsight Enclaves • Dataslate: Adeptus Astartes Storm Wing • Dataslate: Be’lakor the Dark Master • Dataslate: Cypher, Lord of the Fallen • Dataslate: Eldar Ghost Warriors • Dataslate: Firebase Support Cadre • Dataslate: Ork Looted Wagon • Dataslate: Reclusiam Command Squad • Dataslate: Tyrannic War Veterans • Dataslate: Tyranid Vanguard, Rising Leviathan I • Dataslate: Tyranid Invasion, Rising Leviathan II • Dataslate: Tyranid Onslaught - Rising Leviathan III • Dataslate: Space Marines Strike Force Ultra Players must supply the tournament organizer and each of their opponents with a typed copy of their army list. Army lists must specify the number of models in each unit, all wargear and special rules. Players must bring a Warhammer 40k 7th edition rulebook and all materials used to construct their army (codexes, Forge World supplements, digital supplements, etc.). Players must supply their own tape measure, templates, dice, counters, objective markers, and any other tools necessary to complete their games. Tournament Format The Grand Tournament is a win/loss format singles event where each player is paired against a new opponent each round, and the player with the best overall score earns the title of Champion. Players compete in 5 games over Saturday and Sunday. Players score 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. Strength of schedule will be used to break ties. Painting Competition While paint scores do not factor into your final placing in the tournament, the hobby aspect of the game is important to us. Our judges will evaluate the paint quality of every army in the main event and award a prize for Best Painted Army. We’ll be using the following rubric in order to assign paint scores: Criteria Points Available Are all models painted to a 3-color minimum? 1 Are all bases finished with a minimum of 2 elements (flock and sand, etc) featured? 1 Do bases throughout the army, including allies, match? 1 Are all models, including allies, painted in a cohesive manner? This includes matching weathering and paint techniques across allies to represent a cohesive battlefield, etc. 1 Are units and character models easily identifiable (through squad markings, painting techniques, etc)? 1 Are all details, including purity seals, banners, eyes, lenses, etc painted? 1 Have all models been constructed with care? Have mold lines, excessive glue, etc been cleaned? 1 Are there noticeable conversions featured in the army? Complexity is great, but strong demonstrations of skill are our primary focus. 2 Does the army feature highlighting, color transitions, etc, designed to enhance its appearance? 2 Does the army feature advanced techniques, such as weathering, non-metallic metal, original artwork, etc? 2 Does the army include a display board? Does the board match the army’s basing and tie everything together? 2 Prizes: 1st - Trophy + $200 2nd - Trophy + $100 Sportmanship - Trophy + $50 Painting Award - Trophy + $75

Unfortunately, I believe the Golden Throne might be done. Rob Pace, the TO who organized the Golden Thrones, canceled the GTGT in Northern California due to personal reasons and sold it to the BAO. I highly doubt that he is getting back into the tournament scene anytime soon.

Heh....ninja'd.

Thanks for the info guys! It seems like an event worth attending. Hope I'll be able to make it this year. It is right during the bye week of TAMU football... Guess I'll start writing some 2000 point lists!

EDIT: How many players will the tournament be? Do we know yet what the Missions will look like?

We still have this event on the schedule for WaCon. All new terrain has been built for the event. We've got all the scenarios and such done. You can see the details here:

http://wacogamecon.com/TexasOpen.pdf

We're doing one big last push for registrations. Signups have been light and we need to know if people are committed to making this event or not. This is important for planning, badges, etc. We've put time and money in, but now we need support and commits from the players.

If you're interested in participating, please signup ASAP.

There is a group of us(7-8) from Austin that are planning to attend. As far as I know none of us have registered yet.

We need you guys to sign up ASAP. We've had at least 25 people, by my count, express interest in attending, but have only had a handful sign up. We're using Monday as are drop dead date on deciding how to proceed. That's the deadline for getting our trophy orders and such in.

We've got everything in place for this to be a good event. Just need the players to commit now

Those are pics from one box (of five) of terrain that we had built just for this event.
