Rough Rider with Boomstick
So this is the first time I've written any fiction here but I played a 40k game that was so fun I had to tell people about it but I didn't have a camera to make a narrative batrep so I decided to write something up. So this is just for fun but I'd love to hear your opinions on it and let me know if you wish for more.
Just a note, this may go a little against the fluff because I don't know it entirely and it just started out as a fun game.
Also a note, if you want help imaging what they look like my blog has a picture of a normal trooper.
Kai watched Sven nervously shift his cigarette from one corner of his mouth to the other, again. The sergeant seemed much more confident in the mission while explaining it, but now as they barreled to this repulsive sight that was a tyranid ship he seemed less composed. Even with Sven's commanding voice Kai knew this rescue was rushed in planning and if it wasn't for the 20 or so experienced men in the ship it was sure to fail. Cigarette shift. Confusion reigned in this war against the Tyranids. Panic became the norm as more ground was lost, and then won back, but subsequently lost again. Morale was close to collapse within some regiments. Sometimes Kai even wished for mass graves, like he saw on other planets, because it was almost better than no bodies at all. Friends and comrades just swept away in a flood of insects, never to be seen again. Cigarette shift. He didn't even want to begin to think what became of them.
"30 seconds!" yelled the pilot over the com. Kai checked his gun again. Sven shifted his cigarette one last time before dropping it to the floor and extinguishing it with the heel of his boot. A quite hissing noise was made when he reattached his rebreather. Siegfried the Enforcer took this as his cue and walk to the front where everyone could see.
"Alright, you all know the job. Get it, rescue this brainless Inquisitor, get the feth out. Short and sweet," he paused to draw breath through his mask. "The Emperor smiles apon us for our acts of valor. He has given us his blessing, now we shall use it to smite any enemy that dares stand in our way!"
"IN HIS NAME WE FIGHT! IN HIS NAME WE DIE!!!" The boarding ship collide with the tyranid ship with neck breaking speed, causing someone to fall over but he was caught by a fellow soldier. Siegfried didn't even flinch.
"Move! Move! Move!" commanded Rupert, Sven's right hand man. The men exited the ship into the utterly disgusting hallways. Kai could feel the floor move and retract slightly with every step he took. He wished to vomit but knew it wouldn't exit his helmet easily. The sound of scampering little beast was quite unnerving to say the least. Kai turned in time to see their point man round a corner, hear his lasgun discharge a few panicked shots, and see what remained of him return as mincemeat.
"Otto! Point! NOW!" Sven stayed calm as he directed his men to meet the threat. Otto, wielding his signature heavy flamer, turned the bend, trigger held tightly.
"Clear!" yelled Otto as he signaled them to follow. The squad funneled into the hallway, seeing chard remains littering the ground.
"Double file, set up a hail of fire." Kai found himself in the front. Horrifying creatures spirited towards them, but they had positioned well as the las fire brought down every approaching nid. A small grin appeared in the corner of Kai's mouth. This just might work, he thought. Suddenly a flash of light passed Kai's helmet. He looked to the man to his left and a saw half of it head missing.
"It appears I've been hit, oh dear..." What was left of the poor bastard's mouth smiled a little before he fell into a pool of his own blood.
"Onward, FOR THE EMPEROR!" Siegfried bellowed. All of the sudden, there came a massive roar followed by distant shots from xenos weapons. All eyes fell upon Sven.
"Appears we aren't the only ones in this hell, this could get ugly..."
So end of the first part. I'd love some feedback. Thank you to anyone who read that, have a nice day!
“The mission hasn’t change! We must continue in His name!” Siegfried cried as he raised his auto pistol in the air. The squad turned to continue down the hallway, but didn’t move as their eyes fell on what laid ahead of them. They were heading into a dark opening that even their enhanced vision from their helmet struggled to seen into.
“We must advance. Flamers move to the front of the group. Kai lead with Achim and Klaus behind, followed by flamers, then the rest of us. Wait,” Sven hesitated for a second. “Lenz and Manfred move back and hold your position at our ship. That’s our ticket out and I don’t want to have anything in our way when we leave.”
“Yes sir!” Lenz snapped a quick salute. “May the Emperor protect you,” Lenz looked to Manfred and jerked his thumb back to the ship. Manfred nodded. They started jogging back till they couldn’t be seen anymore.
“Alright, we gotta move!” Rupert instructed. They moved closer to the opening but Kai began to realize he wasn’t able to see any farther into the darkness.
“Halt,” Kai held up his hand to stop the unit. He reached to his belt and grabbed three flares. He light them all with one quick stroke. He drew a slow breath and then tossed them in. Instantly he realized the man behind him had soiled himself. The light of the flares flickered off the faces of tyranids. The two group just stared at each other. The xenos were clearly waiting for them, and now they had them. The seconds ticked by like years.
“MOVE!” Otto screamed as he lowered his heavy flamer. Achim dove passed Kai into the unknown while Klaus froze for a fraction of a second. Kai sensed his hesitation, grabbed him, and follow Achmin into the darkness. They hit the ground hard but were rewarded with a beautiful sight. Burning bugs. Their screeches were music to his ears. Kai formed a smile but dropped it quickly when he turned his head. Not even four inches from his and Klaus’ heads was a nid with terrifying looking blades for hands. Kai vaulted from his prone position backwards but Klaus didn’t not have the speed to retreat in time. The thing slammed its right weapon deep through Klaus’ helmet. Kai heard a sickening crunch as blood flowed freely from his comrades skull. The creature tried to retract its arm but Kai realized it must have gotten stuck. He advanced on his immobile enemy, as it began to panic. It jumped at Kai with its left blade but Kai sidestepped, grabbed the blade with one hand, and smashed the joint his his other. He was rewarded with a screech from the fether and it intensified as he ripped off its arm. Now armed with this new found weapon he drove it through the bug’s necks. Kai ripped of the beast’s head and smiled at his new trophy. Quickly attaching it to his belt he turned and grimaced. Body littered the ground. Ruppert’s body we being ripped apart by some small things. Nils was dead. Dolf was being stabbed repeatedly in the the stomach. Poldi’s head was rolling into darkness. Till was dead. Siegfried cried war songs to the men as he fought off two of the bladed tyranids.
“HOW DARE YOU KILL MY MEN!!!” But then at darkest moment there comes a light. That light was an enraged Sven, now dual wielding chainswords after retrieving Ruppert’s. He appeared to dance through one nid only to move to another. The only word for it was graceful. Following closing behind him was Otto, yearning and burning. Kai reached down and picked up his lasgun he’d dropped earlier in combat. He went into a kneeling position and began to add to the fire fight. As the last of the creatures were being put down, Kai heard a noise and as he turned his jaw swung wide open.
“You’re not supposed to be here?” Kai croaked, “Why are you here?”
“Halt,” it sounded like Kai over the com. Lenz and Manfred kept their heads on a swivel. It sounded like it was going alright from the com. No fighting, but they hadn’t been gone that long. Sounded like flares being set off and then silence.
“Maybe the com-” Manfred started.
“MOVE!” Otto’s voice could be heard clearly shouting. Suddenly the com erupted in screams of man and xeno alike.
“We should help them,” Lenz started to run back but Manfred grabbed his arm.
“We have our orders. We must obey them.” Lenz shrugged off his hand. He knew Manfred was just being a good soldier, but he wanted to help his comrades. But then death came from the com.
“They’re too fast!”
“Nils! Fall back! You’re over extended! NILS!!!”
“Get off him! You little piece of gak!”
“Give me my poor arm back… Please… It’s not yours… Why do you do this?”
“They’re coming outta the walls! They’re coming outta the goddamn walls!”
“They got Poldi!”
“FETHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” Lenz started to lose it.
“I’m going out there now!” Lenz started to run off, “You can’t stop me!”
“HOW DARE YOU KILL MY MEN!!!” Lenz froze in his track. He could hear the sweet sounds of chainswords along with the screams of xenos. It was almost magical. The action began the die down.
“Pssf, I told you it’d be alright,” joked Lenz.
“Alright we’ll go with that,” laughed Manfred. Then Kai’s voice came clearly from the com.
“You’re not supposed to be here?” Kai croaked, “Why are you here? Why is the Eldar here?”
