I am in love with how this guy painted his tyranids and I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with a rough estimate of which GW colors I could use to get close to the same effect. Thanks for any input!

Looks like Liche purple (or whatever its called now) flesh with ice blue to enchanted blue (ditto with the new name nonsense) on the chitin.

Not much different from what I paint mine here, just... better painted and in reverse.

If were to prime the model white and then wash the body with a heavy purple wash any idea what would be a good light purple to highlight that with? I wonder if I could make that work or if the wased purple would look too white with the light blue.
What do you think?

Here's a reference of what you can get. There might be more out there. When I paint my purples, I tend to undercoat black (but I'm usually going for a darker look).

If you want to though, give a practice of straight purple over a white undercoat, then just mix some whit with it in little bits and attempt to highlight it.

Also, if you need wash recipes, I hear good things about these.

looks like no airbrush was use so get ready for some pain if you want to copy those nids. how much free time do you have? lol
looks simply enough.
blue parts:
mid blue base (not kantor, kantor would be too dark). maybe mix kantor with the other brighter base blue 50/50.
black wash
first edge highlight, back to the mid blue again
second edge highlight with a bright blue. lothern i guess.
drag some of the paint to the edge for the carapace look.

looking again, he probably did a blue wash too.
