Subject: So Busy! I'm sorry. - xXWeaponPrimeXx's P&M blog (Pic Heavy)

So, I'm completely new at this (both the site and at P&M blogs) so I hope I do it well. I'm at work right now, so I'll do my best with the photos (which are awful because I have to take them with my phone). So, I appreciate any input.
So this is the essential color scheme I will be using for my "standard" kit Savlar Chem-Dogs. (really like the army painter! )
For those who don't know the background on these guys, the Savlar Chem-Dogs are scum, thieves, criminals, reprobates, etc. Savlar was a mining world, but when it couldn't meet its Imperial tithes, it was made into a prison planet. When an uprising occured, the warden created the Chem-Dogs to put it down.
They're in for the loot and the chance at fresh air (Savlar's atmosphere is poison).
That in mind, I'm thinking an orange jumpsuit to signify to other regiments that "Hey! These guys are dangerous!" as well as because they're largely expendable and thus don't need to blend in.
Thoughts?

I already have Rawson!
Weapon waits for no man!
Again, I'm sorry about the terrible photos, my blackberry is just not good at it. But you get the idea? Right?
Automatically Appended Next Post: So here's what I have thus far with my first foray into my Savlar army. Nothing special as I have no previous experience with green stuff. Just a simple kit-bash of Cadian and Catachan.
This is Heavy Weapons Team 01. I will think of a much better name later.
First up is my missile team.
I imagine the rocket trooper shouting some sort of obscenity at whoever is unluck enough to be in his sights.
Next is my mortar team.
A little heavier on the cadian bits for this one, but I think it adds to the whole Savlar feel. Painting to commence this weekend.

Progress.
So, I saw a Tutorial by Gundor and thought that I would give it a shot.
So I drilled into my rocket launcher and added some paper clips.
Then glue some moss to it before coating it with watered down PVA glue.

I'm liking the sound of these Guardsmen. Are you using actual moss or is it a term for some material? :
If you can pull it off that will be one sweet weapons team. I know it's a little early but have you thought about vehicles?

Hey Nashbashem, thank you for commenting. Its actual moss.
Its some stuff I picked up from... Michael's I believe. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's the pictures of my Autocannon team. Again, nothing special. Just a simple kit bash of Cadian heavy weapons teams and a Catachan squad.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Now, for my night's work.
My (nearly) completed Missile Team.
Maybe just needs some touch ups of color here or there. And some basing.
Man, dig that smoke. I really love the way it came out!
Now, not a great photo, but I'm showing off my Victoria Mini's goggles. Drop of superglue to hold them in place and then bent them around the head of my trooper. I think it looks good, but needs some minor touch up work.
What do you think? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, yes. The missile trooper's pants are a different color. I asked where he got them, he said "Poor sod wasn't usin' them no more. And didn't say no when I asked fer'em."

Coming along very nicely. Love the sunglasses Maybe on a Gunship pilot you could model some Aviators
The only problem I can see is the smoke coming from the missile before the launcher. I think because its just pure smoke. If you put some fire effect in there then the smoke over (White, yellow orange, red, black or gray) it would make a really cool effect. Just my two cents
Keep up the good work

I had that thought and added orange and red at the base of the missile, but it was too vibrant, so I drybrushed back over most of it, you can't see it much at all in the picture. I'll go ahead and touch it up with some more color and take another photo as soon as I can.

So, I need some thoughts and opinions thrown my way. I need 2 things.
1. A mascot. Like.... Savlar 66th Firedrakes or Savlar 66th Cutthroats, something like that.
2. Some kind of banner or logo that I can paint onto a command squad banner.
Any and all suggestions welcome.

A skull and crossbones logo should be relatively easy to paint. (look up Pirate flags for examples) pirates of the age of sail are not exactly known for their artistic endeavors...

Sunday Night Update!
Two command squads put together and awaiting painting.
Lets start with Command squad one.
Serevin Corr
Leader of my first platoon and go to man for clandestine missions involving explosions and people needed dead.
Up next, Trooper Wilkes.
Sentenced to Savlar for not saluting his commanding officer. He has since developed less of a liking to taking orders.
Needles, medic.
Sentenced to Savlar after performing major surgery on his commander for a las-bolt graze to the upper arm. The commander was then given bionic replacement.
Nurse, Needles' servo-skull. No one is really sure how he got it. The story changes each time he's asked.
Mason
Not the brightest lumen in the box. Mason has a habit of liking awful awful jokes. Jokes that tend to annoy everyone around him.
Boggs, radio man.
Sentenced to Savlar when he abandoned his radio post for a night on the town with a local girl. Local girls friends then stole a Chimera.
Command Squad number 2
Lt. "Tin-man" Xero.
Says he lost his arm to Tyranids. Doesn't talk about it.
Special Weapons Trooper Carm
Loves his weapon. A lot. Sentenced to Savlar for abuse of munitorum equipment. Trust me, don't ask.
Trooper Oberr
Recently lost his eye in a shiv fight aboard the Fortune's Favored. Refuses a bionic replacement. Says this is trophy of a well won fight. Trooper Verg is not expected to recover.
"Off-Course" Olsen
Sentenced to Savlar for getting his platoon lost in a jungle due to his inability to read a map. 3/5ths of the platoon didn't return. Still can't read a map worth a damn.
And lastly, Medic "Twitch"
A stimm addict from Armageddon. Glassy eyed and usually twitching from need of a stimm. Excellent pain management in his patients.
Thoughts and opinions?

Sorry for the lack of updates last week. Didn't get too much done. But I at least got some painting done this time.
At Nashbashem's command, I added some red to the base of the rocket. Still needs some yellow I think, I'll need to pick some up next time I go to my local store.
Next, I made my army logo. I can't paint for squat, so I decided to model it.
My reasoning is that Savlar would steal everything, including their banners. The skull with the knife in its mouth is their addition to what they take.
The chain is from a Lizardman banner. I really like it
Next up is my mortar team as posted earlier.
I need something snippy to write on the base. Something like "Go long!" or "Incoming!" Suggestions?
Think he's got enough mortars? It took 6 weapon team sets to get them all.
Added the orange over a white basecoat this time, I think it came out much better than on the rocket team. Also, the Catachan chest looks like the mortar operator's stolen himself a fair share of belts from fallen comrades.

Hey folks!
Sunday night update.
So, I went to my hardware store and bought some of this.
And then spent the entire duration of The Hobbit doing this.
With the intent to use it as air hoses for my Chem-Dogs. But, its WAY too big when coiled.
Hours wasted.
Instead I worked up this.
That's a canister from a space marine flamethrower, filed at both ends.
I placed it on my radio trooper, Boggs.
Then I drilled two holes in Boggs' facemask. One on the front and one on the side.
Not bad looking. I'll glue it when I paint him this week.
Here's a proof of concept I did on my mortar team using a Tau fusion gun.
I think it works well. Right?
Anyhoo, all I finished was Corr this week.
Still needs to be based, but I think he came out looking great.
Head and backpack are from forgeworld. The powersword was take from the cadian command sprue. I cut the blade off a right handed power sword and cut the chain blade off the left handed chainsword, and glued it in place.
Still looking for thoughts about posting my fluff here. Comments and criticism are always welcome. Share the thread, and ask your friends what they think. I'd love to know.
Thanks all.

hmmm... did you strip the insulation off? otherwise you might try the small sub wire from inside a length of telephone cable.

Is the wire inside multiple small strands or one solid wire?
As far as stripping it... a fast (and mildly hazardous way) is to use a lighter to melt off the covering... otherwise gentle application of a hobby knife to shave off the coating might work.

I'm still sorta doing that. But thats mostly for the the people who haven't been around long. Standard gear gets replaced by whatever they can get the grubby mitts on the longer they've been around.
So like, my conscript platoons will be all orange since they're new.
