So I am about to go to my first tournament of WHFB, it's a beginners tournament so the max points is just 1000 and not much I can work with. Still I would want some feedback with the list

995 pts

Archmage -220 pts

20 Spearmen with Musician, Sentinel and Standard Bearer -210 pts
11 archers - 110 pts
5 Illyrian Reaves - 95 pts
20 Swordmasters with Musician, Bladelord and Standard bearer
1 Eagle Claw Bolt Throwers - 70

I know at least amongst the armies presents there will be another High Elf player, a Skaven Player, a Lizardmen Player and a Vampire Counts player.
Since this a pretty noob list, some changes may be needed, bellow it's the list of everything HE I own:
2 Mages
1 Noble on Griffon
30 Spearmen/Seaguard
20 Swordmasters
22 Archers
1 Eagle Claw Bolt Thrower
10 Illyrian Reavers
15 White Lions

I think that the main problem is the archmage. It definitely won't make its points back of benefit you enough.
I would change the list to:

Mage (shadow magic)
Level 2
Dispel scroll

Archers x10 (wizard here)
Musician

Reavers x5
Bows

Sea Guard x22
Full Command
Shields

Swordmasters x20
Full Command

Eagle claw bolt thrower

The strategy would be to shoot them and hex them while they advance and then beat them in combat by he xiong them and providing favorable match-ups.

Hope this Helps

An archmage on death (lvl 4 + dispel scroll) at 1k points will shut down magic phases and make people cry. I really like the first list. You should drop the spearmen, though. Bulk up the archers til you get 25% core then fill in the rest with more bolt throwers.

I really like the MSU strat in the second list though. Lots of uniqueness there. If you can play it well I'd almost say go with that.

edit: would probably drop a mage for a boltthrower or something, though.

Yeah, archmage is the main thing I am considering, it can be a huge boost taking a mage lord at 1000, a thing I think few other players can do. But if something happens to him I pretty much lost the game.

Thanks for the tips but I can't follow most of those advises since I don't have the minis.
