Subject: Big mek on warbike? am I making him to expensive or is this a sweet load out?

I got to thinking that a Big mek on warbike, with the SAG might be pretty sweet. He'd get relentless, Toughness 5 a 4+ save and the ability to jink/move around easier, plus the guns on the bike (...even if that'd only be "good" for overwatch when you have a freakin SAG)
Give him the lucky stikk to for rerolling stuff (rerolling scatters with the SAG anyone?) and cybork body might be sweet with T5 and the ability to reroll armour saves/ FNP in a pinch.
Another (really) minor boost would be if you roll double 5's and fling your poor big mek into the enemy as he might stand more of a fighting chance with the added survivability. Giving him some sweet cc weapon might be stoopid but he'd be pretty darn good at defending your backfield or trying to get outta trouble if he tellyports into the enemy
downsides would be how crazy expensive he would be compared to a base Big mek with SaG. And also can he claim 4+ cover from ruins if he joins a unit (say gretchin) and you want to put them in a ruin?

The lucky stikk allows re-rolls of to hit, to wound and saves. FNP is no save, so no re-roll there. Just a heads up.
I'd say that the SAG biker could work, but even better is to take a MegA-Mek with it, and attach it to kustom mega kannons - loads of ap2 templates, and now they can all move and fire. While it works on a bike as well, I'd rather take a KFF (or MFF with W!G)and attach to my bikerboys. Oh, and if you do give him Lucky Stikk, you get a 2+ re-rollable vs anything ap3 or less. And there's always LoS! for everything else.

You cannot trade a slugga for a SAG if you get the mega-armour (already traded it..). There was a discussion about this in the old codex and nothing has changed apparently.
Also nice to combine tank busta's with SAG Bmeks.. giving an ordnance weapon also "tank hunters" can really hurt tanks. With ammo grots you can reroll your scatter hits but sumtimes you don't want to...

Bike is a great upgrade to a SAG Big Mek especially considering the points. I'd leave the Lukky Stikk for a better suited unit like a Warboss, since the Mek can take 3 Ammo Runtz anways, I mean up to you but you get the main rerolls for 9 points (factoring hits you should only need 3 per game).
Question is what unit you want to stick him with since he'll need to be with one with at least his toughness to take advantage of the majority toughness rule.
I'd personally put him in a unit of Big Gunz. I mean they don't benefit from his relentless, but if you line up 3-5 Big Gunz 24" apart he can move up to 12" across them to get ideal LoS on enemy units still, and he gets the benefit of T7 from the majority.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit* As far as big gun units go I'd take him with Custom Mega Kannons and his S2D6 AP2 blast goes well with S8 AP2 blast guns.

Points costs be damned! Relentless SAG! What are you waiting for?! I'll be converting one by the end of the week.
I have to agree about the MegaKannons, they are clearly the most synergistic choice there. AP2 blasts for everyone!
Though I never thought about the tankbustas . . . would you be limiting yourself too much at 24" or is rerolling ordnance just too cool to overlook?
I don't see why he wouldn't get cover from a ruin. The only thing you would have to worry about is dangerous terrain tests.

What about blitzbike, SAG, & gitfinda?
BS3 all the time, for the SAG.... Huh?

Gitfinda requires stationary. Relentless is not stationary.
Blitzbike is also pretty expensive for a secondary weapon, as you want to be firing the SAG every turn.
Really the SAG biker Mek is a question of role, as it provides a little extra punch to a warbiker unit for around 110 points, not counting any further upgrades. Depends on list comp in the end.

I got SAG Big meks shooting from a Battle wagon:
3 Manz + dedicated Battle wagon + 3 or 4 normal meks for extra wounds and repair if needed, and I add the two SAG Bmeks (slow and purposeful).
With the "Tinking Kap" I go for two Strategic warlord traits and hope to get the "3 units infiltrate" bonus. This way you can always use the tankbusta's to get within 24 inch a blow sumthing up for "first blood".
For only 65 points you get 5 tankbusta's and you could add 3 bomb squigs for a reliable first blood kill(or soften the target up with sumthing else, loota's or sumthing..). But if you face a heavy vehicle list you could also field your tankbusta's inside a battle wagon with your SAG's and shoot away.

Something I'm not getting in this post: Where does it say that the SAG would get Tank Hunter if you put it with tankbustas? Do ICs gain the special rules of any unit they are attached to?
Whoops, looked up Tank Hunter and figured it out. Ignork me.

Gitfinder - model that remained stationary get BS3 until end of turn.
Relentless - models with this rule count as stationary when firing ordnance weapons.
I maybe I'm wrong but it sure reads like the biker Big Mek is considered stationary when he fires the SAG, even if he moves.

This might be a YMDC.... But I honestly would disagree with the Git finda+ relentless combo

Am I the only one not seeing why a big Mek taking a SAG on a bike is even something remotely worth thinking about.
We're talking about a weapon that has a 60" range, is needing to move because you're not in range of something really an issue? Even if he can't see anything to fire on a particular turn is 25 points really worth it to get a SAG that can move and fire? Stick the guy on top of a tall piece of terrain an you've just solved your problem.
And the issue with gitfinda/relentless, even I can't make a clear decision after reading the exact wording for both but the same thing applies, is it really worth? 33% of the time that extra BS is worthless because you rolled a direct hit and when you didn't it's only one less inch that you scatter. That hardly seems worth it.
Stick the guy in a unit of Mek guns and you just gave him T7 and solved the problem of Mek Gun leadership.

Relentless is "as if stationary," which seems to me to fulfill the requirements of the Gitfinda.

I don't think the git finda does work with relentless. But if it does it would be pretty sweet with a warboss on a bike or with the blitza bike.

It's not about the range it's about the line of sight, vantage points etc. If you have to shift him even a little he's losing a turn of shooting. If something gets in there to threaten the unit in CC he can also bug out, turn around and blast them.

Big Mek in Kustom Dragster with Soopa-Gun
|
Issue about the bike and sag is not just the cost boost, thats actually justifiable since S8 cant paste him and he has a 4+ armor, but he will never jink because it denies him from shooting his blast.
Also, moving with a SAG is kinda...pointless? I usually stick mine up high somewhere in my deployment zone and he shoots whatever he wants. I have literally never even thought about moving him.

I mostly play against a real shooty IG army (sorry, I meant Astra Militariuriuam). My opponent loves dropping pie plate after pie plate on my rear lines. Now that I can put my SAG on a bike, I'm going to laugh and do the longest-range kiting I've ever done.
