With 7ed out and the restrictions lifted on CADs, why do people still play these 1850-1750 games?

I can see 1500 point games and 1000 point games but I'm not understanding why some people are catering their lists to 1850.

2000 is not very much more in terms of points. Possible a unit or two more. It's a nice even number.

What are you guys seeing around your games? Do people not want to conform and continue playing these weird number points games?

Anecdote, in my area it was common to play at 1750 because that was the point limit the tournament was back sixth. I don't think there has been a tournament since 7th has dropped so it might change.

Everything I say, barring quotes and researched information, is my personal opinion. Not fact.

Its what the Tournys play.

Also i see a lot of people just playing in increments of 250 anyway.

Despite never having been or plan to go to a Tournament, i tend to favour 1750, as it gives those extra few points for something fun on top of your core 1500pt list whilst still being easy to finish in a couple of hours.

2000 is actually the most common value around where I play for 40k.

1000 points in my area, college club. Not a whole lot of money. We will do 2v2s to make bigger games at 2000 points

Where I play 1850 is usually the high end, mostly because going past that can eat up a lot of time, with newer players I usually drop down to a 1250 game, big enough they can bring some cool stuff but small enough to keep the game moving.

I prefer to play 2k+ with my friends. I dont like playing small point games.
Bigger games are always fun and we can bring in the units the we like

For my group, 6th killed 2000 with its double FOC nonsense. Rather than house rule it we decided to switch to 1850 since it's a common tournament amount. Since 7th invalidated that reasoning with 1) allowing FOC shenanigans at all points levels and 2) making house rules a necessary part of a sane environment, I've only had the chance to play in another group that tends toward much lower point values in general. I don't know if 2000 will make a comeback with my other group.

We normally play 2v2 or 3v3 games (or a mix match depending on whos playing), everyone brings a 1000 and 1500 point list and even out points per team (normally 3k per). Occasionally we will do 1v1s of 1500 or 2000 points, 2k can sometimes just drag on too long vs a 1500 point game time wise.

Most games here are 2-3k. I did play 6k recently for fun, we opened and closed the shop for that game :p

I like bigger games in 40k, since I play Warmachine for my smaller, more tactical games. But we have a more (age) mature group here, so many of us have several large armies over several games.

The few hundred extra points that 2000 brings can turn a 2 hour game into a 3 hour game, and time is often a factor. Also, some people like the game more at smaller points values, as it tends to be a bit better balanced around them.

People tend to stay away from games higher than 1500 in our area simply because we try to stay away from table clearing LoWs

That's not to say that if you want to take a Stompa in an unbound list or one of the Daemon Lords from the IA books, by all means go for it, people just tend to actually want to play games tactically... Having something on the board just wipe things off every turn tends to take the fun out of it for people who can't afford their own to actually compete and have equal fun with.
