I like shooty orks, and I was just wondering if any of the shooty nob options were good, or how to go about making them adequate.

If you want shooty Nob-equivalents you may as well go for Flash Gitz, for only 1 more point than a Nob with a TL-shoota you get Gitfindas built in for optional BS3 shooting, and a assault 3 S5 gun that 50% of the time ignores power armour. AND they all come built in with the obligatory bosspole.

Yeah, Flash Gitz are effectively shooty Nobz in everything but name. The one advantage that shooty Nobz have is not taking up a Heavy slot.

You make the shooty nobz adequate by including a power klaw and a couple big choppas with their shootas :p

Try and do that with gitz

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

This was something I was going to try this week, but the two games I had planned never came to fruition. Since Nobz get Shootas for free, or you can opt to spend points for Twin Linked if you really wish, they can be a possible option. But as others have said, Flash Gitz are slightly more expensive, can have better BS, and a far superior gun.

I opt NOT to use Flash Gitz, because I'm strapped for Heavy Support slots, which is why my small amount of Lootas won't hit the field anymore. I'm trying to find room for Battle Wagons, or Kanz/Dreads/Naughts now, since Walker armies look more and more appetizing than ever for me.

Flash Gitz also get a bit of a target on their foreheads as well. Both Gitz and Nobz still have the risk of being ID by S8 weaponry, but Nobz tend to be overlooked due to the notion that they are garbage units. Any turn they get ignored is good for me! Especially if they are trying to pop my BW full of shoota Boyz, or trying to bring down my Morkanaught.

In my current opinion, shooty Nobz MIGHT be an option, especially if you haven't used any Elite slots, which I often have those slots free (Since I don't own Tankbustas yet D. All I can say, is test them out. Take them in smallish squads, to keep your opponent from looking twice at them. If they see a huge 10 Nob blob, they won't hesitate to drop a S8 plate down on them.

Edit: As the poster above me noted, they can also still take PK, giving them dual battlefield roles. Of course, every PK you toss in is a fair chunk of points, and further increases their liklihood to be shot off the board. But any Nob mob without at least 1 Klaw, especially if you know you plan on cramming them down someone's throat, is a foolish thing to do.

just go with bike squads.

They are in the fast attack section, can be taken in units of 15, have a pretty good gun, and way more mobile and durable.

TL-shootas and 'Eavy armour can be a nice combo, but they're still the best in assault. if you got even more points to spare on them give them a PK or some big choppas

but on the other hand it's not worth spending that many points just for some tl-shootas. and kombi-rokkits = might as well take tankbustas. Kombi-Skorchas is the only 'unique' choice they get. better and tougher than burna boyz but only one skorcha shot each and more expensive....

I just had this conversation with a buddy last night when he played his flash gitz. Their shooting was good, but survivability was horrible. For the points you could put more bikes on the board, that are faster, tougher, just as Shooty/Killy, and cheaper.

In fact I struggle trying to find value in flash gitz, & Nobz in this edition.

Nobz can take a BW as DT.. freeing up HS.

They get some of the best quality small arms fire to help make them comparable dakka to larger squads. Or can have an AR with a kombi rokkit..

They can all take big choppas to make up for lost hits in CC for taking TL shoota, an AP5 weapon to curb the saves a horde would get in CC, and generally make them str 8 to nearby vehicles.

AT 30ppm they can pretty much shoot like a block of slugga choppa boyz, smack vehicles, wade into a horde with AP5, and bring you another BW

There literally is no point in shooty nobz.

A unit of shoota boyz with pk nob outdoes nobz in every aspect when it comes to shooting.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Unfortunately, there's literally no point of nobz at all. If you allready have the models and don't know what to do with them, it might be a good idea to use them as squad leaders.

If you ain't afraid of using plasticard (or how's that plastic clay called), you could try to create custom gear to make them look like flash gitz or if you're skilled enough, can even make megaarmor! Manz are great in this codex.

Conversions are your best bet, IMO, if you haven't assembled them yet. Flash Gitz, Meganobz, or even Painboy and Big Mek HQs can all be useful.
