I've decided to repaint all my old marines as Crimson Fists so I used this as a test model.

Its the first model I've painted in about 3 years so anybody have any advice on how to improve?

Looking good so far, the paint looks a bit thick but besides that it looks great.

Its not bad for 3 year haiatus.

Id try to keep the model cleaner and remove the lint

Your paints seem thin enough but you have control issues in tight spaces (like the right arm joint)

easy to touch up though.

Red is a bit flat. could use a wash (brown wash or dark red)

The colours seem fine, you've chosen to avoid the red trim and red on both hands which many people make the mistake of doing. The red really does seem a bit flat and the bolt pistol for Crimson Fists is usually black. Other than that, it's pretty good. There are some control issues but I have that problem too.

First of all you should work on control, those kind of mistakes may ruin all the paintjob of a mini
Second, your paint IS too thick, a lot.
Then please do not drybrush the flat armor area, the effect you give is too noisy.

So I suggest to unpaint it, then give the white primer and redo the base paint with more accuracy and thining the paint (50% paint 50% water), then do the washes (not a dipping) with agrax or nuln oil, then try to glaze the armour to give the model some lights like you did with orange on the power fist.

Please I don't want to seem too evil on my judgment, I did it hoping to give an hand... IMHO.
