So be honest with me. What's keeping people from running Pedro lists with Sternguard that don't have any Troops and become Unbound? Is it points? I am well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of a very elite army infantry army and I see a lot of lists online with similar units except there's always a couple obligatory Troops units such as 2 Scout squads in Storms that contest at the last minute or 2 pods with 5 dudes and combi-melta + melta.

My second thought after points costs of heavy sternguard armies is that people aren't being receptive to Unbound lists, so that's why I don't see many of them.

I really want to have a core army of:

-Pedro
-Honor Guard in a Pod
-2 units of 10 Sternies in a pod
-Terminators in a Land Raider
-2 units of 10 lascannon devs
-other assorted support elements that can take advantage of the IF chapter tactics.

Something tells me that it may have some slight thing to do with a little-known and ill-understood rule called Objective Secured.

Its the whole does Score like troop = they get objective secured...

IMO its a no but that's a YMDC thing

Also as unbound you do not get command benefits anyway so no OS even if you did.

However what many forget is that they are still scoring units anyway and if there is nothing to deny them then they are still as good as troops.

'round my parts, they have Objective Secured with Pedro.. So assume that it is a "go", so to speak.

They do have Objective Secured regardless of how you form your army. Making your question all the more relevant.

Page 115- Hold the Line
Replace this rule with 'Hold the Line: If your army includes Pedro Kantor, friendly units of Crimson Fists Sternguard Veterans have the Objective Secured special rule (see page 122 in Warhammer 40,000: The Rules).'

I was thinking of this for 2k:

Pedro (Warlord)
4 Honor Guard- Power Sword x3, Thunderhammer, Pod
10 Sternguard- Combi-Melta x2, Heavy Flamer x2, Pod
10 Sternguard- Combi-Melta x3, Heavy Flamer x2, Pod
10 Sternguard- Rhino
5 Scouts- Heavy Bolter, LSS
5 Scouts- Heavy Bolter, LSS
7 Devs- Lascannon x4
7 Devs- Lascannon x4
7 Devs- ML x4, Flakk

I know its not Unbound, but I'm obviously still coming up with ideas. You guys know how brain-storming goes. I want to get a feel for what this army can do with IF chapter tactics and Pedro's combat buffs without taking Land Raiders (at the moment)

If you go Unbound and drop the Scouts you could upgrade the Rhino SG with some guns and put them in a pod.

Then buy pods for 2 of the Devastators ( Allowing all Sternguard to drop turn 1)

And use any other points to bulk up the Honor Guard who drop Turn 2 with the empty Pods.

Thanks man, I like that a lot.

That sounds like a list that I could really have fun with, and I might want to keep the Scouts around for the few inevitable tournaments that will outlaw Unbound.

A sound plan. Though I'd advise dropping one Devastator squad if you have to add in the scouts so you're Alpha Strike remains the same.

Oh good catch, with Pedro not a lot of reason to stay Battle Forged.

Yeah that's what my mate's building his deathwatch out of. Backed up with astral claws or iron hands. I can happily wait whilst he builds it.

Expensive as heck though.

But what kinda awesome name to give this tactic?

It should be some kinda cool Mexican standoff

One thing that Pedro also makes Really, Really viable is Honor Guard. My brother plays SM and we were discussing this very thing. I was having passing thoughts with regard to a small 500 point start up IF army, and pedro W/ Honor Guard and a sternguard fill up 500 point by themselves with upgrades.

Of course this was after I had an irresistible urge to paint a squad of 1k sons, which with a Sorcerer, adds up to 500 points as well. So, at 500 points, I was thinking Pedro W/ Honor Guard would wreck. In normal sized games, or rather, in any sized game, this will likely be squashed by any army able to field more than 10 models per unit (*Cough* Orks *Cough*).

Ironic, given Pedro's backstory, huh

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.
