Subject: Tiny quartz crystals? Where can I get them??

Asking for a friend, he is currently painting up a tau army in a wonderful pink and purple paint scheme, his wife it turns out is a dab hand with a brush and is free handing pink and purple digi camo on his vehicles, I'll try to get some pix once it's finished.
Anyway he wants a simple base job, agrellan earth with some little purple tufts of grass here and there which is already sorted but he also likes the idea of having some pink and purple quartz or similar crystals spread out amongst them to add a bit more detail.
All I can find online is big pieces (5cm plus) or small rounded pieces.
Anyone ever used any? Is it feasible to buy a big one and just crack it with a hammer?
Or does anyone know any suppliers (ideally uk or eu based)?

Try some of the beads/craft jewellery stores for crystal-like beads if all else fails. Some of them are quite good, if generally quite regular in shape.

If you can't find any locally (i.e. in nature), go for a big one or lab-grown and feel to smash it into a hammer. Just be careful, if you smash it too much, it'll become crystal powder.
