Does anyone else turn signatures off?
I find them way too off-putting and visually cluttered, so I switch them off.

Yep. Clutter the space and mostly got zero value.

Sigs, like avatars, help me identify posters. I find that on my iPad, where I do have them off, it is harder to follow threads.

That said, I dislike some of the gaudier sigs, but no so much that I’m going to dump the whole system.

Signatures are fine. Plus Dakka limits them from becoming too big. Generally not a fan of massive pictures in signatures that you frequently see on other forums. Putting you P&M blog is usually a good start and if it gets you more feedback then great!

I also include Dakka Bingo made by Ouze because... screw you if you don't think it's great!

I keep them on simply because they can highlight some stuff (particularly P&M blogs or army lists seeking critiques) that I might otherwise miss.

I have them on because I don't see a problem with them.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. They help me ID users when I'm skimming through a page and they can have useful links to blogs & tutorials etc.

I ike them. They help me understand a bit about any given poster beyond what they are posting.

Edit: I love the ludicrously skewed questions in this poll. Worthy of Gallop.

Thanks, I see you noticed my mild bias.
Maybe I don't know what I'm missing out on, but I really can't stand all the gak in the sig box...It's usually longer than the post/comment.

I show them, I like seeing sigs. Some are funny, others philosophical, informative, etc.

Mine on the other hand, is obnoxious and irritating to most on this site, I suspect. I like it though, because I looooove going to festivals/raves/clubs.

I really don't see it as an issue. I'm not forcing anyone to read it, so anyone who dislikes it can go feth themselves for all I care.

I leave them on. Like others have said, sigs and avatars can help identify posters while skimming through a thread.
But, I also keep mine as a short, simple quote.

I don't think you can turn t he avatars off...I find them very useful identifying posters too. I just found the huge sigs off-putting. Often they would take up 6-7 times more screen space than the comment. I don't miss them at all.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Avatars are off on the mobile version and work safe versions of the site.

Avatars are very helpful for seeing who is posting what in a thread. Sometimes signatures link to or display interesting stuff.

Then why do you have a signature?

I like signatures.
They help identify users (especially helpful if their avatars change a lot) and sometimes they are funny.
Using Dakka on an Ipad is very annoying because both avatars and signatures are turned off.
I do think signatures should not be too big though. If they are too big, they become distracting. No more than five lines please.
