Hi,

A brief intro about me. I am an Electronics Engineer and have worked in the PBX (Office Phones) for quite some time before coming out to help a friend. Then I went into Sales, had a tough time going about it and after the passing of my Mom, I was in Systems Support. And now for the first time in so many decades, I have a semi-permanent day job which is to a freelancer for a friend.

I have been in modeling since I could remember but never had completed a kit until this year, which is the Imperial Guard Valkyrie and the Moebius Cylon Raider, both are lighted up. Before starting a family, I was already looking into putting LEDs into model kits but the electronic technology at that time in my country was not as what it was now. So, in 2009, I started making a limited commercial lighting board (but never sold it) and things progressed from there. What I like about lighting for model kits is that it makes the model come alive. I call this Scale Lighting, where the intensity of the lights and their 'size' makes the model look real.

The reason I am going into this path is because for years, I have read on the Forums about people purchasing a lighting kit for their models, which when it came, it really is a kit. So, the customer has to get a soldering iron, solder, etc and also learn how to solder properly and identify each electronic component, figure out why it did not light up after the kit has been sealed and so on. Or, they just realised how daunting it was, kept the kit in a dark drawer and that model never got built. So, my solution is to provide a Lighting System which is ready to go ie Plug and Play. And all the Customer has to do is to find three AAA batteries and some bit of modifications. And I plan to do this for the following models too, but at the cost of long production time since I have to solder the boards myself. Heh.

So, right now, I am in the midst of various stages for the following Models which I plant to put it out soon. Some models were personally purchased by me and some were loaners, which I am grateful for since budget is very tight when it comes to doing R&D:
- Ork Bommer (soldering & assembly manual)
- StormTalon (soldering & assembly manual)
- Imperial Knight (soldering & assembly manual)
- Storm Wolf/Fang (Designing circuit board)

Time and time I will put up stuff of what I have done on my Facebook page so you guys can get inspired. But most of the time, I would prefer you guys to head directly to the Photo Albums

And sometimes, when pictures does not do justice, I take videos whenever I can:

Slowly, I am going to archive most of the Facebook pictures into my Website (maybe end of this year) and redo it. But right now, this is how it looks (yeah, I am bad at this)

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka!

I too want to use LEDs on some of my models, but I had the idea of using 3 watch batteries to power the LEDS and use only 1 LED of the colors I want on the model. Then, using fiber optic cables, run those to the locations in which I want lit up. I think that would reduce a lot of time and materials. =D

What do you think?

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
