We're on vacation in California and have a new favourite store, Cheap Thrills aka Captain Nemo in San Luis Obispo - great staff, huge selection of vintage vinyl, CDs, DVDs and a good selection of GW.

a couple of days in they launched a sale - 50% off a lot of product, including new items: we're only acquiring Orks but they had half price Mek Guns, new Mek, Painboy, Stompa... not every copy was discounted but most of the new stuff was included. We ended up getting a Gorkanaut, don't like the model but for $50 it's worth having that mobile KFF.

THey also have a 'nid Biovore in stock for $17 or less, metal, plus the old metal deff dreads, $22.

They seemed to have just as much on sale for other forces, plus Warhammer; still have Stormclaw in stock.

We asked why the sale and were told it was probably in advance of some GW promotion.

Has anyone else seen this? Is it the harbinger of something significant, or just a one-off? (and of course, if it is a one off, then check it out!)

That's not a GW store, so I doubt it is indicative of GW policy.

I'd take a lot of salt with whatever they tell you at Nemo's... not trying to totally bash it or anything but some of their staff can be kind of lax in information... I've experienced some less than truthful stuff from them. Then again I haven't been there in a year so I don't know if they've changed or anything.

Don't get me wrong... they have some great finds... but some of their pricing and the staff can be a bit sketchy.

I wouldn't read too much into it. My favorite FLGS is in Pasadena CA and they were clearing out some inventory old and new for cheap. But they still had plenty of stock of the newest.

There's a minuscule chance they're clearing stock before another trade terms change, but yeah, wouldn't read too much into it.

GW had a big sale on all their old "lead" figures when they switched to white metal in the early 90s, as I remember. I wasn't bothered though, I was after a box of plastic epic space marines anyway (£7.99 at the time, if I'm remembering correctly).

Another employee reckons they are quitting stocking GW. Sales are down, as are numbers of players - who complain how long it takes to finish a game.

Looking at the Gorkanaut in the flesh, or the sprues, I have to agree the pricing is ludicrous.

Bar is pretty low for N&R these days.

A flgs clearing stock?

By the same token, pp stuff is 50% off at www.coolstuffinc.com along with malifaux and all of their minis. Its not indicative of PP's sales policies. Cool Stuff's sale lasts until they run out of minis though.

So a single store that isn't even a GW store has a sale... and this makes N&R?

Waiting on confirmation that having a sale is not indicative of GW policy.....

I'm going to go out on a (titanium-reinforced adamantium-diamond laced) limb here and say "No. It isn't.".

That's most likely. They won't be getting the stuff for less than 50% of RRP, so are making a loss on everything and sounds like a fire sale.

Maybe they are clearing old stock, maybe they are dropping GW completely, but it's not going to be a general GW policy.

Damn. One of my local stores stopped carrying GW products a while back and liquidated their stock with about 60-65% off.

Sorry for not making a thread about it, guys. I've let you all down.

Well, the idea was also that people might want to pick up stuff! Sorry for the distraction.

No harm done.

Hope any other Dakkanauts in the area are able to pick up a bargain or two.
