Hello, People call me Cylee (si-lee) and I am a newbie here to dakkadakka but thought as though i should post in the introductions to meet some people since i think i will be spending a lot of time on this forum ;D
First a couple things about myself i guess.
I work at a hydroponics store in WNY. It is family owned and operated.
I am getting married this fall and will be moving into a house soon that has ample space to set up a dedicated war gaming spot (so i would like tips on making my own table and scenery)
I play disc golf in WNY.
I have a couple of gorgeous girlcats.
I play MTG and 40k with my brother in law
I have a ps3 and xbox one (send me your info!)

Anyways a couple years ago i started collecting LoTR miniatures and assembling and painting them then about a year ago my brother in law convinced me that we should start collecting 40k minis and eventually play. So about 1.5 months ago we started playing for the first time against each other. He runs with Ultra Marines and I am a Tau enthusiast.
Our first game we were really rough and it was a 500pt game and we tied and did so many things wrong. our second game was 500pts and i won thanks to a well placed and lucky deep strike. so the 3rd time we played we did 750 points and i tried to deep strike again but i didnt get them til turn 4 and it ended in a draw again. We will be playing 750 pt games probably for the next couple months until we get larger armies together and have a better understanding of the game and are more fluid in the rules.

I would love some advice more so about like deployment and certain tactics for specific units. If anyone would care to chat this out just respond i guess haha.
Thanks for your time folks!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome! I'm new here as well and currently have a 500pt Tau list I like to use when I can find people who'll play me at that low of a points level. I'm planning to get a Riptide to knock it up to 750pts when I can afford it.

I'd be interested to know what you stick in your 500 and 750 point lists since we seem to be of similar experience?

Hello! Yes we seem to be. I am always trying different techniques that sound good in theory but things don't always work out the way i envision it.
The last list i used which ended in a tie vs Space Marines for 750 pts was

HQ - Commander xv8 with 2 gun drones
- Cyclic Ion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Drone controller, Iridium armor, Stims, neuroweb system jammer.

Elite - 3 xv8 crisis suits as a unit with 4 gun drones and 2 shield drones
1st suit - fusion blaster, plasma rifle, counterfire defence system
2nd suit - fusion blaster, plasma rifle, counterfire defence
3rd suit - flamer, plasma rifle, counterfire defence
Troops - 2 teams of 8 fire warriors with pulse rifles
Fast - 2 teams of 5 pathfinders
Heavy - 1 xv88 broadside. with twin linked heavy rail rifle and smart missile systems.

Now the counterfire was a waste because I didn't even get to use them. But I had all of my crisis suits on reserve and deep striked on turn 4 with them. and very carefully I successfully killed off his troops from an objective just in time to tie the game haha.

I am currently throwing around ideas for a different strategy, one involving more mobile support like devilfish with either one or both of fire warriors or pathfinders, and a hammerhead. I also have kroot but i don't know if ill use them on my next deployment.
