80 bucks and decent enough reviews... not sure if you are just getting into airbrushing or want something a little higher end?

I'm actually in the market for an airbrush kit too.

I'm less concerned about price than I am with having a good quality setup that will be really flexible for mini painting.

I picked up a Sotar 20/20/F a while back, so would like whatever setup I get to be able to let me get the most of this brush.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am just getting into it myself to be honest and that setup hasnt arrived yet (ordered a few days ago) so i cannot give you any feedback as to how well it works. Based on what I have read and the videos I have seen it is less about your actual brush and more about the paint/psi/your technique. Obviously better brushes probably give you a smoother action with greater control, but i personally figured this kit would give me the basic mechanics to practice before jumping into the higher end brushes

check out this bad mamma jamma at a nice discount http://www.amazon.com/Grex-Genesis-XN-Double-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B002XQ2K4S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407406156&sr=8-2&keywords=grex+genesis.

I struggled mightily with my first airbrush. The difference between a precision airbrush and a cheaper one is usually how finely it atomizes at lower psi. For miniature purposes that is pretty important especially if you want to get in real tight on a mini.

Just starting out there are a couple schools of thought:

buy quality you will grow into it and it will still be a great airbrush when your skill level matches the airbrush

buy a cheap one, learn on it thrash it and then upgrade if you like it

Thinning and learning how to clean it can take awhile. So be prepared to spend some time figuring it out. That grex is a good deal.

So here's my two cents...

First of, the masters kit seems to be very good value for money for a starter kit. Is it a good airbrush? I would have to guess no from what I can read. It will get you pretty far though. If you are thinking fine detail you might be a bit disappointed but you will be able to prime, preshade, basecoat and to do simple highlighting to get smooth transitions. Then do the details with a brush and wham, you are done

The Grex one is hard to comment with no direct experience but from what I can see it seems a bit overpriced. But I might be wrong, it might have an extremely nice trigger and good precise atomizing of paint as said. As with most things, it all comes down to your budget and how much you are willing to spend.

I am currently on my fourth airbrush and have finally spent on some serious hardware but on my journey I have found a few things to think of when buying...

  • First of all I do prefer a compressor with a tank, but with a regulator and automatic shut off it might give you a good starting point.

  • Second gravity feed airbrushes is the only way to go for me, you can have a lower working pressure and this is easier to work with details
  • The needle will need replacing since it's almost unavoidable to bend the tip at some point. On cheaper airbrushes you might not find replacements and thus will have to buy a new airbrush.
  • A quick connector make life sooo much easier when it comes to cleaning. Not needing to screw off the hose to be able to turn the airbrush over to get into all the nooks and crannies.

  • Most other things that I can think of now is just to my personal preference so I will not go in to them right now.

This is a good bundle, you don't just get a airbrush with a gravity feed and a small and accurate tip, but also a couple of paints that work really well in the airbrush for £70.

The airbrush in that Vallejo bundle is at is says in the description a Harder & Steenbeck Ultra (http://www.harder-airbrush.eu/ultra/). Now I have not tried the Ultra specifically but I can say that H&S has some excellent quality airbrushes. I was amazed with the difference in build quality from anything else I have tried.

At least on my end, I'm also looking for a good compressor as well.

There are a number of options, but I just don't know what to get.

I'd like something reasonably quiet, though capable of lots of different pressures.

This is what's confusing me. Finding the right setup that has the right synergy.
