Toddler causes security breach at White House, delays Obama address on Iraq

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama was about to address the nation on Iraq Thursday night when the briefing was delayed because of a security breach on the North Lawn of the White House.

But this wasn't your normal breach, this was one of a pint-sized variety.

A toddler forced the President, the press corps and the nation to wait.

The little boy managed to squeeze himself between the bars of the White House fence, just before the briefing was expected to start. It forced a temporary lockdown.

It didn't take long to resolve the matter and he's now back with his parents.

"We were going to wait until he learned to talk to question him, but in lieu of that he got a timeout and was sent on way with parents," according to Edwin Donovan, spokesman for the United States Secret Service.

The boy's parents now have a story to tell their son -- the night he made the nation wait for the president.

That's one of the classic blunders, like going across a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Yeah, it is really inconceivable why I did that. I thought I had learned my lesson with Yahoo's comments, but apparently I am just a glutton for the Internet's bile and stupidity.

Yes, but you would've known that I would've known that you would know not to read the comments. It's the oldest trick in the book!

I'll be honest, you people are about the most reasonable people I've seen when it comes to talking about the kinds of stuff that goes in the OT section (although the fact I avoid any heavy political/social topics like an Ebola quarantine zone probably helps that image).

I now imagine that about 20 years from now this man/woman will apply for a job that requires a security clearance and it will come up in the interview that the Secret Service held them for questioning at some point in the past. That would be just what you want to hear...

Just think, these are people that have cars and are driving the nations highways. Sleep well...

I was reading a cool story about the bones of many large prehistoric mammals being found in a cave in Wyoming and there weren't two comments in before it turned into politics. I immediatly fled.

How do you know the kid is white? For all we know he might not even be American. There are a lot of foreign tourists in DC.

We know he's white because they returned him to his parents, and didn't assume he was a child suicide-bomber set up by his grandad Osama Bin Laden. If someone even remotely middle-eastern looking had squeezed through those bars, it wouldn't matter how young or how cute they were.

We don't know anything of the sort. You may assume that, but you absolutely do not know it. What do you really think they would do if a non-white toddler squeezed through the bars? Not return him to his parents?

Let's not turn this into some massive argument please folks.

Thank you.
