So I was thinking of finally making the plunge into 40k, and untill the new ork release none of the armies appealed to me that much. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice one what to get to start so I don't go spending money on models that I won't be able to use untill higher point values, or aren't viable at all. I did some searching but couldn't find anything recent.

Thanks in advance guys!

Buy the codex first, have a good read and decide what type of army you want to play. Boys heavy? vehicle heavy? then head to ebay and buy an army on the cheap.

Trukks and Boys. When in doubt trukks and boys.

Unless you plan on making an army without trukks, which is prefectly possible

A warboss, two units of 20 boyz and a painboy are great start since you can use them in pretty much any kind of army. Hunting down an AOBR set would be a great options, since you get koptaz on top of that, which are playable in pretty much any kind of army.

After that a unit of MANz is useful, since you can put them in trukks as MANz missiles, or have slightly bigger units drive around as hammer unit for a battlewagon rush.

After that, you'll have to decide on some type of army. Bikers are awesome for fast armies but cost too much points for footsloggers or battlewagon rush, mek gunz are great support for kult of speed lists and green tide armies, but you don't have slots to spare for them in battlewagon armies, battlewagons don't work well with footsloggers.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
